Hello, my husband is a teacher and will be working in Bangkok from august. I plan to travel a bit and use Thailand as a base, I’ll also have to come home to UK in December. I’m slightly confused as the non-imm type O visiting family says it’s single entry only. Does this mean I need to keep applying for the visa every time I leave? I’m planning on lots of small trips around Asia.
If I just go on a visa exemption does that mean after 30 days I can leave and will I easily be able to come back if I go to a different country for a few days?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The Non-Immigrant O visa for visiting family is indeed a single-entry visa, meaning you would have to apply for a new visa each time you leave Thailand if you do not have a re-entry permit. For frequent travel around Asia, consider obtaining a yearly extension after your initial entry, which allows for multiple re-entries throughout the year. Alternatively, entering Thailand on a visa exemption allows you to stay for 30 days, with the possibility of leaving and returning from another country; however, you must adhere to the exemption rules.
you would BUY a 90 day Non-O Visa from a thai consulate before you come here based on visiting family, come in get 90 days, THEN when there are 30 days left on that you would apply for a yearly extension that matches your husbands (called trailing spouse extension) after you have that extension you would get a re-entry permit and then you could come and go geting stamped back in until your extension expires every time you re-enter for the year.
