TLDR : Answer Summary
The individual with a non-immigrant O visa needs a re-entry permit to return to Thailand after a temporary departure. A single re-entry permit is sufficient for this purpose. It can be obtained for 1,000 Thai baht from the local Thai Immigration office or for 1,200 baht at the airport before leaving Thailand.
if he obtains the re-entry permit at the airport, ALLOW extra time to process thru Thai Immigration. Look for the Re-entry permit DESK... IF it's not Open, just Ask a Thai Immigration Officer and they will reopen the re-entry permit desk.
Which airport will he be using to fly out of Thailand?
He can get a re-entry permit to re-enter Thailand. It can be obtained from your local Thai Immigration office for 1,000 Thai baht. Or at the airport prior to leaving Thailand for 1,200 Thai baht, Which includes a fee of 200 Thai baht for the application and photo completed by Thai Immigration Officer.
