I saw a post the other day regarding the Multiple Entry Visa. I have a Non O with Retirement Extension.I presumed I could come and go as often as I liked, and as I live near the Lao and Myanmar borders, planned to make a number of visits on my motorbike. Can anyone tell me what,if any, are the rules regarding the Visa. I heard someone with a ME Visa was refused entry. Thank you

TLDR : Answer Summary
The person inquired about the rules regarding travel with a Non O Retirement Visa, specifically the ability to enter and exit Thailand frequently. It was clarified in the comments that once you have a yearly extension of stay, you no longer possess a visa for the purposes of entering the country. To re-enter Thailand after leaving, a re-entry permit must be acquired prior to departure. The discussion confirmed that one can indeed travel in and out of Thailand without major issues as long as the appropriate re-entry permits are obtained and the 90-day immigration reporting requirements are observed.

So can I come and go as often as I like? I presume that on my day of re entry I must report yo Immigration and my 90 day report starts again from that date.

your 90 day count down clock starts over when you stamp into the country and your next 90 day report is due 89 days from the date you stamped in (they count the day you stamp in as day one)

IF you're on an extension you don't have a visa and the denial of entry a person on a multi-entry TOURIST visa got has nothing to do with you..

Get a re-entry permit BEFORE you leave the country from the immigration office and you'll be fine.

Good for him to know if he wanders into Laos or Myanmar

Extension of stays are sold as NO re-entry because they're issued INSIDE thailand so if you stamped out of the country without buying a re-entry permit you canceled the extension right then and there and you start the whole process all over again.

Out of curiosity, what would happen to his extension of stay if he didn’t have a re-entry permit. Does he get denied entry and have to start over with his extension?

this is a re-entry permit

IF you have a yearly extension of stay from the immigration office it is sold a NO entry <- because you're already IN thailand when you got the extension. ;)

Once you get your extension IF you want to exit/re-enter you need to BUY a re-entry permit (either a single for 1000baht or a multiple for 3800baht) it will be valid for the length of your extension
