What is the process for notarizing and translating a UK marriage certificate in Chaengwattana, Bangkok for a visa application?

I am in the process of gathering information and documents to apply for a 12 month permission to stay based on being married to a Thai national. I ONLY REQUIRE INFO ON THE FOLLOWING.

I have just received my UK marriage certificate back from Legislation office in London, so is now verified as legitimate certificate. I now understand I need to get the certificate translated, but also get the certificate Notarised.

Is this process done in Chweng Watana Bangkok , if so does anyone know the process ? TIA

Hi, I have just gone through this process - it is a 3 step process :-

1 Legalized in M.Keynes.

2 legalized by Thai Embassy in London

3 stamped by Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Bangkok.

 All by Royal Mail, as you describe. It took 3 weeks and we had already gone back to Thailand, so my sister mailed it to me here from the UK.

 when you were in the UK did you do it in person or by mail, sending it via Royal Mail Special delivery tracked, including the same for return plus £10 postal order the cover fee ?

 Yeah, that would be difficult. I returned to the UK and did it all from there, but we were planning to be there anyway. Maybe getting a UK based friend or relative to do all the posting would work. Either way, it's a pain that it all has to be done in the UK.

 the only prob I could see with that was, if we reside in Thailand, how can we provide a postage paid envelope with U.K. Stamps ??

Tony so did you then have to send it back to Thai embassy in London to obtain the legalisation and get the 1st RED SEAL ? And if so how did you provide a return addressed envelope with, I guess UK stamps ?? As it would need to be tracked .

 I think they require a postage-paid envelope in order to send it to the Thai Embassy in London.

I had the same problem with M.Keynes - they say they automatically forward to the Thai Embassy in London but they sent it straight back to me.

Hi Martin.

No, once we received it back from the Thai Embassy in London, we went to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Bangkok. We were not sure where to go at first, but there was a booth at the top of the first set of steps that said "translation service" - had a chat with the lady there and she said no problem, I will translate and get stamped for and post it to you - very helpful she was.

Tony I have sent my certificate to legislation dept in Milton Keynes and has been returned to Thailand, I was unaware that they could send it on to the Thai embassy. So I guess this means I now have to send it back to Thai embassy in London UK to be legalised, AND what about the translation, does this have to be legalised in London if translated in Thailand ??

Keep your receipt also. It might be needed for verifying that you had them officially translated at that office. Just depends on where you are getting the visa/permission to stay.
