Do I need to get my UK marriage certificate stamped at Milton Keynes if I already have a Kor Ror 22?

Sorry if this is a daft question - I have already looked through the topics, but that's confused matters even further.

We're moving to Thailand in August - we got married over 12 years ago in the UK. I'll be applying for a 90 day non-O, and we're trying to sort out what we need to do before we go.

I'm reading on here that we need to get our UK marriage certificate stamped at Milton Keynes and send it to the Thai Embassy in London so we can get the Kor Ror 22..... we've never done this, but we already have a KK22 all signed and stamped in Bangkok from when we got married 12 years ago.

If we already have a stamped and signed KR22 (this is held on the Thai systems as they printed another copy for us in February) do we still need our UK marriage certificate stamped at Milton Keynes? Or is the KR22 sufficient for anything we're going to need there?

Thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is preparing to move to Thailand and wants to apply for a 90-day NON-O visa based on their 12-year marriage. They already possess a Kor Ror 22, which documents their marriage, but are unsure if they need to have their UK marriage certificate stamped at Milton Keynes before moving. Community comments suggest it is advisable to undergo the legalization process in the UK before leaving, as it could prevent complications when applying for a visa or extension in Thailand.

Worth doing the process in the U.K. before you leave. All you need is ONE Thai official to dig their heels in about it and you’re squirrelled. It’s really difficult to do from outside the U.K.

@Rob ******
that would be very useful for people in Thailand who need to get that done 👍

... I'll try and dig out the details but it's an online service and it was really easy.

ok, so if you get a company to do it, that’s probably why it can work. I did it for a friend of mine while I was in the U.K. and they were in Thailand. It was a bit of running around so I imagine it wouldn’t be cheap!

thanks- having spent the last hour trying to speak to Milton Keynes and the Thai Embassy in London, its not even that easy to do from within the UK - I can only imagine how much more complicated it'd be from Thailand. 👍

My choice would be not to rely on what whoever answers the phone says. The process is outlined n their website and there’s less chance of “but I was told on the phone…’ syndrome.

That’s just me though. 😊

thanks - unfortunately the website doesn't mention anything about how to pay or get the documents back from them - it says everything has to be done by post due to Covid, but then all the instructions relate to actually calling in.😆

As I remember, the MK bit can be done online. Thai embassy should respond to email. The bit that squirrelled a friend of mine was payment to the Thai embassy by postal order!

I was trying to ring them - might leave it for my wife to do - I've heard it's easier to get through if you select the option to speak Thai.

this isn't really a thai visa question but I'll let it on the group

You STILL need to go thru the legalization process with Milton Keynes and the Thai Embassy in London.

They WON'T give you a Kor Ror 22 <- that you can only get in thailand and as you say you already have one from the local amphur from years ago.

The Kor Ror 22 is just a paper from the amphur that lists a thai national was married abroad

I would still go thru the process of getting that UK marriage certificate legalized back there. Last thing you need is to show up here, go to get a visa/extension based on marriage and find out because you didn't do it you can't get the extension.

This is an image from a shop here about how to do it

As soon as the brit embassy stopped certifying marriages MANY people had problems and had to send it back to the UK (Milton Keynes) and then to the thai embassy to get their UK marriage certificate legalized

You're there, DO IT before you come

thanks - I remember we went to the British Embassy and had all the translations done 12 years ago - got the KR22 from Chaeng Watthana - but now she seems to have lost the translation. I was hoping it wouldn't be needed as we already have the KR22 all signed and stamped - but advice taken - better to be safe than sorry. 👍
