my marriage visa is due for renewal, just checking the embassy website and there's no mention of needing a letter from the Amphur to prove you are still married, I had to get one last year. Do I need the prove we are still married? Many thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation discusses the requirements for extending a marriage-based visa in Thailand. While the embassy may not specify the need for a marriage certificate, it’s recommended to obtain updated documentation, particularly the 'Kor Ror 22' from the local Amphur every year. Requirements can vary by immigration office, and some may request additional proof of marriage or other documents like children's blue book copies. It is essential to check with the local immigration office for specific requirements.

That's your wife's cert to get from the amphor or however it's spelled

this is page 2 of the list of requirements for an extension based on marriage. Note that when I did it in 2021, they wanted everything in triplicate. Now is only two sets of copies. Then there are the pics in front of the house, inside of the house, the hand drawn map to your house from the IO, with GPS coordinates, Could take a couple of tries. Good luck!

See the pic below for the list of requirements for an extension based on marriage, there are 2 pages. Seems like a long list but is not that bad. I've done it now for the 4th consecutive time. The part I find most annoying is that they want the bank statements all done the very same day you apply. By the way, this is from the IO in Phuket, and from my experience, they always change a detail or two, so better go to the IO where you plan to apply and get *their* list. Beyond issuing the initial visa, embassies and consulates have nothing to do with extensions. Cheers!

What an embassy says and what Immigration requires, are two wholly different things.

Embassies are dependance of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, while Immigration is Ministry of the Interior. Both these institutions do not communicate a lot between themselves, so there always is a lot of misunderstanding when you ask either one of them.

Their rules differ, so it is always recommended not to trust what an embassy staff member says about Immigration rules inside Thailand, and vice versa what an Immigration officer claims to know about rules regarding an embassy.

Married to a Thai wife foreigners will need a freshly printed marriage registry document from any Amphoe. It is called “kor ror 22” and Immigration wants to see a new one every year, when you visit them for the application to the next “1-year extension of stay based on being married to a Thai wife”

Go to Amphur for update stamp..10 baht in Udan Thani
Jorge ****
In Phuket you need a kor ror 2 (marriage cert, not the one with the color graphics) from local amphur, updated no older than 60 days (it used to be 6 months). YMMV.

@Jorge ***
no, that's wrong.
@Vinny *************
wrong! You only need the Kor Ror 22. That's a marriage registry printout. The Kor Ror 2 is the rose bordered marriage certificate, this one you only get issued once in your life when you get married. Immigration wants to see an updated marriage registry each time you apply for the yearly extension. Jusz imagine: you could get the extension every year for the next 20 years, even if you were already divorced, by showing an old marriage certificate. The registry printout ensures that your marriage actually still exists

And this is the back of Koror 3, with the form number at center top.
Jorge ****
This is Koror 3, front, the form munber is on the back.
Jorge ****
This id Koror 2, form number is at upper right.
Jorge ****
Please see pic of instructions from IO below: if one has a Thai wife, one needs to produce both Koror 2 and 3. For a foreign marriage certificate a Koror 22 has to be obtained at the local district office. My Thai wife and I married locally, so I cannot comment on the Koror 22 because it does not apply to us. Also see the sample pics of Koror 2 front and Koror 3 front and back. This last extension was the 4th one, same docs, updated to reflect we are still married.

I just looked up the two marriage papers I used this last May. The one in color is 3 and the one in b/w is 2, updated.

@Jorge ***
i was correct because I just done

Can only be updated 1 week before go immigration
Greg ***********
the rose bordered one is Kor Ror 2. The marriage registry printout is b/w and is the Kor Ror 22. I have no idea how they do it on Phuket
Vinny **************
You need a kor ror 2 from local amphoe

At CW they do require a new copy of your marriage certificate each year (not the pretty part) that you and your wife will have to get from the Amphur before applying for your extension.
Gray ******
Get it and also make sure to copy the back side of the marriage certificate.

There has been a lot more control when looking for extensions based on marrige so im sure want to see proof that you are married. It's not a big deal to arrange the certificate

If it's in jomtien, then yes, you do.

Did mine yesterday, everything was meticulously gone through including a Google maps location to your house (officer did it there and then) which they printed off, also if you have children they wanted copies of blue book for them also, which wasn't required last time

@Williams ******
thanks for the info. Doing mine on Friday next week at Jomtien and the blue book copies of the kids is definitely new from last year.

@Russell *******
yes they checked all of them
Nigel *********
Usually don't need it but it's only 20thb so I'd take one jic
Michael ********
It seems to be dependent on your office, in Samat Sakorn not required, but some do require so best check with your local office
Craig *******
@Michael *******
ive had to provide it there for the last 3 years.
Michael ********
@Craig ******
in Samat Sakorn the updated marriage cert ?
Craig *******
@Michael *******
yes you need paper to prove your still married from the marriage office
Colin *********
@Craig ******
just curious... A marriage certificate is proof that you married someone and a divorce certificate proves that a marriage has ended, but how can a piece of paper prove that one is 'still' married? I'm aware that IO's do house visits to check that a couple still live together, supposedly, but I don't know where this piece of paper fits in (knowledge for the future for me),
Craig *******
@Colin ********
nrw rules they brought in a few years back. Maybe somebody got caught with a forgery or something i dont know. I know ive needed it so i have to go wait upto 1 hour for it 20 baht fee for it.
Colin *********
@Craig ******
ok, but my thought was that simply providing a piece of paper that states that a couple is "still" married isn't proof, any more than the original marriage certificate. Having IO's visit the marital home, which I haven't read is being done away with, is better confirmation, though even that could be manipulated with a bit of help.
Michael ********
@Craig ******
ok i never just original cert was fine

You cannot renew a visa. You can apply for an extension. Each year is a brand new application, not a renewal.

An embassy has nothing to do with applying for an extension, that is handled by your local immigration office.

If you're in Thailand and want to apply for an extension based on being married to a Thai, you need to go to your immigration office and ask for their handout of requirements for a 1-year extension based on being married to a Thai. Each immigration office sets their own requirements so the only way to know what is required is to go to your office and ask.

@Brandon ***********
I get the impression he's off for a one year visa out of country.

it's possibly but there's only one place left that offers that
