Hello,

I entered Thailand with on 90 a NON Immigrant O and need to change to a marriage visa.

My wife and I got married in the U.S and we had our marriage certificate certified by the U.S State Department seal as well as the Thai consulate in Los Angeles.

I’m not sure if the Immigration office in Chiang Mai will accept this or will we need to register our marriage or get a form at our Amphur office. Anyone have any experience with this? I think I’m clear on the other requirements. Much thanks!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking guidance on converting a 90-day NON Immigrant O visa into a marriage visa, having married in the U.S. and certified their marriage documents. A community member advises that instead of changing the visa, the user should apply for an annual extension based on marriage, emphasizing the need to register the marriage at the Amphur office to obtain a Kor Ror 22 document, and meet specific financial requirements before proceeding with the immigration application.

You aren't changing your 90 day Non-O to any other visa. You have a visa that was issued based on marriage, all you're doing here is applying for a yearly extension of stay based on marriage to a thai.

FIRST you need to get the marriage of a thai married abroad registered at the Amphur and get what's called a Kor Ror 22 document (registration of a thai married abroad)

You also need to get the 400K baht in a thai bank account in your name only so it can season for the required 2 months before you apply for your extension.

AND

You and your wife need to go to the thai immigration office out by the airport in Chiang Mai and get the hand out listing the requirements for you to apply for the yearly extension based on marriage. You will apply, pay the 1900baht, get a 30 day under consideration stamp and then go back in a month and they will ink in the year extension.

That's the steps you need to take to get from the 90 day Non-O to the year extension based on marriage 🙂

If you have a certified certificate you need to get this translated to Thai, take it to the local MFA office for an approval stamp, then off to your local Amphur who will issue you with the Korror22 as mentioned above, then off to immigration with all the other stuff, photos, map etc to get the First 30 day stamp as above. Just did it recently.

thanks, we had heard that it needed to be translated from English to Thai but I wasn’t aware that we needed to go to the MFA office for the approval stamp. Thanks for that information.
