I entered Thailand on Dec 5 with a visa exemption valid until Jan 3. I alredy extended this exemption until Feb 2 at immigration. If I now fly out of Thailand on Dec 31, so before my extention starts, do I need to do something, like cancel my extention? I plan to re-enter Thailand by plane on Jan 10. And than will stay until Mar 31 in Thailand, so I will do one more extension and one more border run or fly out/in.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user has extended their visa exemption before leaving Thailand and wonders if they need to cancel it upon exiting. Comments indicate that upon departure, the extension will be automatically canceled, allowing a new entry stamp upon return. Furthermore, options like purchasing a re-entry permit or applying for a tourist visa instead were discussed.

Why not just buy a tourist visa while your out of the country that'll give you 60 days and extend that simple

No. You simply wasted 1900 Baht, but no big deal

OR you could buy a re-entry permit for 1000baht (at the airport) and then when you come back on the 10th of Jan you'd get stamped in until Feb 2nd (the date of your current extension stamp)..

but why would an re-entry permit have any advantage?

i edited that to show you could ONLY buy a re-entry permit at the airport because all the immigration offices are closed until Thursday the 2nd of Jan

nope, when you stamp out your extension stamp cancels and when you come back you will get stamped in on a new 30 day visa exempt entry stamp
