TLDR : Answer Summary
A US tourist with a 45-day visa exemption in Thailand can apply for a 30-day extension at any immigration office for a fee of 1900 THB before the original visa exemption expires. After obtaining the initial extension, there is also an option to apply for a 60-day Covid extension for another 1900 THB. Travelers have shared positive experiences of receiving extensions without issues, suggesting it is possible to extend early.

I did my 14 day ASQ then went to immigration 12 days later they gave me 60 day extension no questions asked, they also said to call again for another extension later, came in on 30 + 15.

Just ride the Covid wave until it stops

I think you first need to get the 30 day extension at any Immigration office for 1900 THB. You can go and get that now and not wait until the expiry date of your 45-day visa Exempt. If you want to extend after that the 60 Day Covid Extension for another 1900 THB

Haha, crikey. You've been through it all then!

The cancelling retirement and getting Non-B is a long funny story. Too much for here. Two flights to Singapore and a bus border run to Cambodia.

I didn't correct you, what you said it definitely correct for a number of offices - I just wanted to be annoying and say there are some offices that will give you a Covid extension immediately. Maybe that's the case re; payments. At Phatthalung it was only one payment and you don't need to return (I heard some offices make you return after two weeks, which is a bit strange).

I know you did not correct me :-) I have seen a lot of offices give "Under consideration" as you say - means you stay local or have to travel back. Immigration is strange and depends on the office. I was on a retirement extension and got offered a role I always wanted. To get my extension cancelled was a nightmare - in end had to pay an agent for under the table. Now on BOI visa and it is so easy. Immigration is a conundrum inside a maze.

Not true, you can get the 60 day Covid-19 visa straight away, did it Phatthalung for 1900 baht. Paying 1900 for a 30 day visa when you get a 60 doesn't really make much sense.

I think it depends which immigration office. Some insist you do the 30 day first and others can go straight to 60 day covid. Happy to be corrected but that is what I have seen posted.. Agree with the payment but some Imm office might want the 2 payments?

Pretty sure you can but better check. It has been quite some time since I did it but I know I went early in my 30 days as I wanted to go off travelling.
