Do I need to cancel my visa extension after resigning from my company in Thailand?

Hi I have resigned from my company, my last day was 10th Feb. The company said they would cancel my WP on tuesday 14th feb electronically. Do I go to immigration now and get my 7 day extension to leave the country or do I have get get a letter from my company confirming I have left and that the WP has been cancelled. The Company is in Bangkok and I am in Chiang Mai.

If I go to immigration, can I go to immigration in Chiang Mai, or do I have to go to immigration in Bangkok.

Or should I leave the country ASAP, via a border run to Laos and get a 45 day visa exemption with the new stamp invalidating the current extension.

TLDR : Answer Summary
After resigning from your job in Thailand, it's essential to manage your visa and work permit correctly. You cannot cancel your extension in Chiang Mai; it must be done at the immigration office in Bangkok where you initially obtained it. You'll need proof of your work permit cancellation from your company. If you have a multiple re-entry permit, be cautious as it may affect your exit and re-entry. Alternatively, leaving Thailand through a border run may not require prior cancellation of the extension.

I would just leave the country and not cancel anything. It gets cancelled when leaving. Or it depends if you want to stay in Thailand then can get a border run or return to your own country.

Edit: If you have multiple re-entry permit it seems you need to cancel the Visa at Bangkok immigration before leaving.

that is 100T NOT correct, he has a year long extension WITH a multiple re-entry permit

leaving the country and coming back will NOT get him off this current stamp

I want to return and start a course. I was going to leave and get the 45 visa exemption, but i have a multiple entry visa extension. So looks like I need to get the extension cancelled. Else I return on the original re-entry visa

100% correct, you come down here to bangkok where the extension was issued, you cancel it, you bounce out and back AFTER that and you'll get in on a 45 day visa exempt entry stamp. THEN you are free to pursue another type of visa to further your stay here

this is not valid advice if you're on a work extension

nope you can't cancel that extension in Chiang Mai, you cancel it at the immigration office in Bangkok where you got it, which looks like the Cham Churi Square One Stop Service Center for BOI / IEAT companies.

You take the proof the work permit was cancelled and you cancel the extension and depending on the immigration officer you can get between 7 and 21 days once they cancel the extension.

None of it can be done in Chiang Mai, and bouncing out and back isn't going to do anything for you seeing as you have a multiple re-entry permit they'd just stamp you back in until July 2 2023 like you have now

I only have an email from the company that my last day was friday, is this proof enough?

GO to the Cham Churi Square immigration office with it and see what they say, they should be able to cancel your extension although they might have to contact your employer..

if you dont have. a re entry stamp you could invalidate the extension / the correct way would be to cancel it / thats it all good im the system /

. It's correct!

We wish you success in getting it cancelled in Bangkok and to your next steps as you seek to stay in Thailand.

you cannot cancel an extension at an office other than the one that issued it

That's just how it works
