TLDR : Answer Summary
This discussion addresses the common concerns of Digital Nomad Visa (DTV) holders in Thailand regarding the necessity of providing proof of income or maintaining a minimum bank balance of 500,000 THB periodically. Many participants assert that proof of income is typically not required unless one is applying for an in-country extension. Some share personal experiences suggesting that requests for bank statements are rare, while others emphasize the importance of having sufficient funds available. The conversation reflects a mix of anecdotal evidence and clarifications about immigration rules.
I was asked to show a bank account once out of about 10 trips, after having the visa for 1.5 years. I pulled up an investment portfolio on my phone and they laughed and waved me through. I think I probably looked homeless coming back from a beach trip so I don't hold it against them 😂
The rules are that you don't have to for an extension but only one actual report I've seen relates to their actual experience of an extension and not copied from the internet.
From why Paul Lee (creator of the Thailand Digital Nomad Skool group) and other members…in the 5 years he’s been in Thailand…he’s never been asked that nor it is required.
On its face it defeats the purpose.
Further there is no language in the application rules or instructions stating so.
— I know how long the DTV has been in existence, dude. Paul’s experience of never been asked to show proof after approval is relevant and answers the question.
Jay Sutton How many times has Paul extended his DTV in Thailand?? Does he even have a DTV? You're basing his overall experience living in Thailand, as opposed to his actual experience dealing with the topic of the post! There's a big difference.
Anonymous participant 892 —I’m not solely basing this on Paul’s experience. He’s the point person in the Skool group with thousands of members. I posted this question months ago there and everyone that replied said what Paul stated.
I hope people stop replying to thread. I no longer will be responding.
Done 3 border runs myself and 0 questions asked. You are not required to show any proof of funds in bank but it is good to carry at least 20k baht cash with you
you do not constantly get asked to show proof - they politely ask you to write down on an immigration form your assumed bank balance and signed. This is the format related to this query. Bank statements are asked in order to qualify for the visa based on being in a foriegn country bound for Thailand.
she refers to the 180 day extension and upon these 're - entries' it's common for an immigration official to present a form and ask you to fill in the 'how much you got to support yourself' a 'signature'.
I am not the one asking the question I own my condo and my bills are paid up until I am a old man no worries here you seem to be the one concerned about not having the funds😂
I do ! Been on long term visa in Thailand for almost a decade, I did learn to keep it close ;) they ask for statement at least 4 months back, while I’m extending visa every year. Btw this money can make some interest as well here and there so is win win.
