Arrived in Thailand - August 24 on DTV visa. Based in Chaiyaphum, visited immigration yesterday for 90 day check in, they confirmed I needed to do this.

In regards to my next visit, they are saying I can get an extension for another 6 months or if I leave the country and come back in I will need to report and show evidence of funds in the bank. I did not think this was an ongoing requirement?

I think I am the first and only person in the area on the DTV visa as they had to do some research before confirming.

Is ongoing proof of funds a requirement for DTV that others have experienced?

Thanks 🙏

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user, who arrived in Thailand on a DTV visa, visited immigration for their 90-day check-in and was informed they might need to provide ongoing proof of funds for future entries or extensions. Comments from the community suggest that while some believe showing bank funds is not required, it can vary by immigration office, and practices might change. It's also noted that doing border runs instead of extensions could avoid complications with the 90-day reporting.

It would perfectly make sense to have to show funds again for an extension. The opposite would be surprising as it would make the requirement when applying kinda moot.

As far as showing proof of funds for a report after a new entry (If I understand correctly the wording of OP) that's sketchy and maybe something has been misunderstood by someone or lost in translation.

Showing bank funds it's not required. Source: hundreds of DTVers come in and out every day, and they always get 180 days, no questions asked.

Not saying they couldn't change something in the future, tho.

they aren't extending though. We're wondering what the added 180 days will be?

I mean, for extending in country, nobody knows yet, as the first extensions haven't take place, I think. But it you go out it the country and return, then everybody has been getting 180 days more, upon each entry.

yup, presume so. I'll find out soon enough, I'm about to pop back to London for a couple of weeks work.

If I understand I can stay for 90 days, leave the country and back again for more 90 days?

you get 180 days upon each entry

It will be up to each immigration office to determine the requirements they see fit to ask for.

No one knows what the requirements for a 6 month extension will be yet because no one has done one. But each immigration office can require whatever they want.

As far as leaving and returning, the immigration office has nothing to do with that. You'll have a new 180 day stamp that your immigration office can't do anything about. They're just making stuff up.

If you're actually worried about it, then just don't do 90 day reports. If you never try to do an extension and just do border bounces every 180 days instead, there won't be anyone to ever notice you didn't do a 90 day report. And worst case the fine for failing to do it is 2000 baht.

yup, that's my understanding of it aswell.

I'm wondering if next month their might be an announcement for the exact criteria for extending.

@Stephen *******
there won't be any announcement because each immigration office sets their own requirements.
