Hey, has anyone had experience of getting a 30 day extension for kids under 12 years old? We got 30 days in arrival and need the extension? I heard that kids are free. Do you still need to do paperwork for kids? Is there a risk of kids getting a penalty if you don't apply for an extension for them? Particularly keen to hear from anyone who has done this with kids. Thank you :-)

TLDR : Answer Summary
The process for obtaining a 30-day visa extension for children under 12 is similar to that for adults, requiring the same paperwork and a 1900 baht fee. While children under 15 cannot be fined for overstaying and those under 18 cannot face a ban, it is still advisable to apply for the extension to avoid any complications.

you got your wires crossed a bit

If you get a 30 day extension for a child its the same paperwork; copies, form and FEE as adults (1900 baht)

I think what you're hearing is;

Children under 15 can't be fined for overstay and children under 18 can't be banned.

That's why many foreigners just let the children overstay and don't get extensions

Correct. But its still not legal and no ban does not mean no overstay stamp in the passport.

I know foreign couples here with children on multi-YEAR overstays who had no issues flying out and back in.

I think having a child stay another month without an extension before they go back home isn't gonna be a big deal

Its not a big deal. I agree. But personally i prefer to avoid any risk when it comes to Thai immigration.

So treat them as adults and you're fine

Just act by the law.

it's Up to the parents to decide what they want to do...

Most do NOT get the 30 day extensions for their children...saving the 1900 Thai baht per child per extension.
