Has anyone here been able to secure the dependent visa without leaving thailand recently? My children are Thai citizens. I was told as long as I have the funds in my Thai bank account it should not be a problem, but I would love to hear from anyone who has been through this. Also is this visa generally a multiple entry?

TIA (not make any assumptions, but given the responses I have seen on this page, I kindly ask for accurate and seriously replies only 😉

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking information about obtaining a dependent visa for their Thai citizen children without having to leave Thailand. They mention having funds in a Thai bank account, which they believe should suffice for the application. There is a discussion in the comments regarding the nature of the non-O visa, indicating that it is not multiple-entry unless a re-entry permit is purchased. Further, insights are shared about the processes involved in securing extensions based on guardianship of a Thai child, with references to differing rules at various immigration offices in Thailand.

Thanks, mine ends then anyway. So unless they’re doing another two months from then until the end of May it won’t help me

apply about two weeks before the 30th March and you will get another two months. Mine expired today but applied two weeks ago and got until 30th March. Wait for it to be officially confirmed.

According to the Phuket office they don’t issue a non o visa in country for a guardian. I guess this is because a guardian of a Thai child can apply for an extension of stay for a year if they already have a valid Non O or valid extension. I’m not sure a Covid extension is what they term valid. You’d need to check that one. However if you haven’t done so already you can obtain a 60 day extension based on visiting Thai family. There’s no financial requirements for that extension. That would then put you on a valid extension which means you can apply for the one year extension of stay as guardian. Here‘s the link for the Phuket requirements. Your local office may differ.

interesting. Thank you for this information I’m in Chiang Rai and they seem to have different rules depending on which office. But thanks.

yes each office have their own quirks and rules. Best to go to the office and get the handout they give you for the requirements they need. Work through those and then apply.

I have it, and I meet them all. It just says nothing about being a multiple entry, and the man was very cagey and kept telling me that he wouldn’t talk to me about it until I had the money to show. But I don’t see the point in sending it from the states to Thailand and losing the exchange fee if they’re not gonna allow me to actually apply in country. So I thought I’d check on other people‘s experiences.

When applying for a Non O do your initially have to state the reason or is that at the extension stage?

To answer the second part, a Non O visa obtained in country or an extension of stay due to having Thai kids is not multiple entry. You must buy a reentry permit before you leave Thailand in order to keep the remaining days stamp alive. 1,000 baht for single or 3,800 for multiple entries.
