Can I renew my Non-O visa while I need to leave Thailand during the renewal processing period?

I'm on a Non O visa (Thai spouse). It expires mid January 2025 and I have to leave Thailand early February for about 6 weeks which is during the under consideration period of the visa renewal.

I'm sure I'm not the first in this predicament and a search has indicated that I just take my problem to the immigration dept when I apply for the renewal. Is this correct?

Can I apply early December and bring the whole process forward?

Thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
If you're on a Non O visa and need to leave Thailand during the renewal process, you can typically apply for a renewal 30 days or less before your visa expires. While you can apply in mid-December, it is crucial to inform the immigration officer about your travel plans when you apply. Depending on the timeline of your visa's 'under consideration' status, you may need to secure a single re-entry permit to maintain your visa status while you are out of the country. Ultimately, the best course of action is to discuss your situation directly with immigration during your renewal application.

At most offices you can apply for a new yearly extension when you have 30 days or less left on your stamp, so you could apply in mid December..

Make sure you'll tell the officer when you apply for the extension you have to leave, because I don't know if the under consideration period will be over no matter when you apply for the year.

You might need to get a single re-entry permit after you get the under consideration stamp to keep that stamp alive when you leave.

It's all going to come down to the date the under consideration stamp runs out, Any way you slice it you have to be at the immigration office the day that stamp expires to get the new year extension inked in.

TALK to the officer when you apply for the extension in mid Dec, show them the flight out/back and see what can be done

Thank you so much.

As a back up - if I just let the visa lapse as an Australian can I reenter on a 60 day visa exempt and just start the process for a new visa from within Thailand?
