Please excuse me if im duplicating a much asked question but im having difficulty retreiving any searches inquiries. Im arriving in Bankok from USA in January for 54 days under a 30 day tourist visa (upon arrival). Is immigration still giving an additional 30 day visa stamp for a total of 60 day stay? thank you.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A traveler from the USA asked about the possibility of receiving an additional 30-day visa stamp during their stay in Thailand under a 30-day tourist visa upon arrival. The responses clarified that instead of a tourist visa on arrival, US passport holders now receive a 60-day visa exempt entry stamp due to a recent policy change. Furthermore, it was noted that they could apply for a 30-day extension at an immigration office for a fee.

You're a little behind the times there

๐Ÿ˜ฎ

First there is no such thing as a "tourist visa on arrival" ๐Ÿ˜•

If you hold a US passport and show up here without having bought a visa from a thai consulate beforehand you get in free on what's called a "visa exempt" entry. It's not a tourist visa, it's not a visa on arrival, it's not any visa at all, just a free entry stamp

AND

Since July 15, 2024 the free 30 day entry stamp went to 60 days for 90+ countries (including the US)

So when you show up in January you will be stamped in for 60 days ๐Ÿ™‚

You can indeed get one 30 day extension on the free 60 day visa exempt entry stamp at the immigration office after you're here for 1900 baht.

I thought or understood that Thai immigration were changing to an apply for entry before you arrive, from your own country starting in December 2024. You receive approval before you fly, are provided with a QR code which you print out before you leave your country. Correct me if I am wrong. Just commenting because he intends to fly in January 2025.

You are talking about the ETA <- Electronic Travel Authorization program.

They WERE going to roll out in Dec.

That was postponed and there is no date set for it to roll out
