TLDR : Answer Summary
The original poster inquired about the possibility of applying for a 60 or 90-day visa at Thai immigration upon arrival with a 30/60-day visa exemption. Various responses highlighted that a 60-day tourist visa must typically be obtained at an embassy before traveling, while a 90-day non-immigrant visa can be applied for in Thailand under certain conditions, particularly involving age and financial requirements. It's also noted that the applicant can extend their stay by converting their tourist visa at immigration, provided they meet the necessary criteria, including having sufficient remaining days on their original entry stamp.

You get a 50 day on line on the the embassy website. Once in Thailand, you go to an immigration office (in any good size city) and you ask for a 30 day extension…

Thought you now get 60 day on arrival visa for free?

When going to Thailand for 31 - 60 ( 90 )days, the 60 days touristvisa is the best option.

It is cheaper than visa excempt + 30 days extension.

No need of a onward ticket ( 90 days 1 onward ), if returnticket within 60 days.

It is easier to apply from the comfort of your home.

If visiting the nearest Thai Embassy website, you may find informations, that make it much easier to apply online.

Not wasting holiday time to find, go to and waiting at a immigration office ( 90 you would need that ).

Then no need to leave Thailand in up to 90 days.

come in with 30 or 60, extent 1 time of 30 days, than go to lao and get back to get another 30 or 60, and you can extent another 30.

YES, you can.

You can enter visa-exempt or on a 60-days tourist visa, and inside Thailand on Immigration, can apply for the “change of visa type” from the tourist stay permit to a 90-days Non-Imm visa type, if you fulfill their requirements

And before the 90 days stay permit expires, you can apply for the one-year extension of stay permit.

You need to have a minimum of 15 workdays left on your entry stamp to be allowed the application to the “change”, so it is advised to initially use the 60-days tourist visa as this one will allow you plenty of time to get your ducks in a row

Check the Immigration website on the “change of visa type” process. In case you are over 50 of age, the “retirement” option would be good for you. To open the pdf with the requirements, you will need to click onto number 9

Visa exemption gives you at date 30 days which you can extend with additional 30 days at your local immigration. If you apply for a 60 days tourist visa before you come, you can also do a 30 days extension at the immigration.

90 days Non O visa can as mentioned applies for at home or in Thailand on a visa exemption/tourist visa. The requirement is being above 50 years old. If you apply at home you can use both income or funds to meet the financial requirement. If you apply in Thailand you’ll need funds in your bank at date when you apply, unless your embassy offers to give you an affidavit letter to confirm your income. (The UK, US and AUS doesn’t). The financial requirements are income equal to 65K baht a month or funds equal to 800K baht.

If you want a 60 day tourist visa, you apply at a Thai embassy or consulate before you travel.

90 day visas are non-immigrant visas. You can also get these at your Thai embassy before you travel.
