Hello! I just wanted to about visa extensions for tourist visas. If I come into Thailand with the 30 day visa exempt entry (from US), am I allowed to do two extensions for a total of 90 days stay? All the recent info I can find indicates using a 60-day tourist visa and filing for 1 extension.

For background, I’ll be coming from a country that does not have e-visa applications and I’m located quite far from the embassy.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

TLDR : Answer Summary
A 30-day visa exempt entry into Thailand cannot be extended beyond a single 30-day extension, allowing for a maximum stay of 60 days. For longer stays, travelers from the US are advised to apply for a Single Entry Tourist Visa before entering Thailand.

Do your. Flights have to correspond with the visa you enter with

And IF you are applying for the Thai SETV single entry tourist visa using the Evisa online application system, your first flight to Thailand MUST be as

, It's not totally correct. When you apply for SETV/METV on eVisa system, you have to provide all travel tickets to Thailand leaving the country you applied for your visa at, NOT from your home country.

When you actually travel, your flight could be different from what you provide for the application. Flights are always changed because of a lot of factors such as airline schedule changes or cancel, and you have no way to inform to eVisa system about this change.

possibly. BUT as I understand it by using the Evisa online application system, you need to show PROOF of your flight departing your home country en route to Thailand. Otherwise the Evisa application will be rejected.

, if you as US passport holder applied for SETV to the embassy in London, you should provide the tickets leaving UK to Thailand. If you provide tickets starting from US, the application wouldn't be approved.

thank you for your correct clarification.

, no not from your home country, but from the country where the embassy/consulate you applied for your visa at located, for eVisa application.

Yes for Visa Exempt (30) or Tourist Visa (60) entries in case they are challenged

You’ll get 1 30 day extension apply for a tourist visa and you’ll get 60+ a 30 day extension

No. Both visa-exempt and tourist visa entries are eligible for ONLY one 30 days tourism extension. So a total of 60 days 59 nights stay when you enter on visa-exempt, or 90 days 89 nights stay on a tourist visa.

If you want to stay longer than 60 days, you better apply for Single Entry Tourist Visa before you travel to Thailand.

SETV fee at the embassy/consulate is cheaper than 1 extension application at the local immigration office to stay for 60 days, no time to spend at the immigration office for an extension application of up to a total of 60 days, and less hassle with the airline for check-in.
