How many extensions and visa runs can I do after entering Thailand on a 30-day exempt visa?

I arrived on a 30 day exempt visa from the U.S on August 3rd. I just got a 30 day extension on that which will last me until Oct. 1. I hope someone can clarify some questions (finding a clear answer on the internet has been confusing):

1. How many additional 30 day extensions can I get before I need to make a visa run (leave and come back in)?

2. Can I get another 30 days after doing a visa run by land border entry (I think I read that you can only get another 30 days by air border entry)?

3. Can you extend the length of those subsequent visa run entries an additional 30 days (like I just did for the first exempt visa I recieved when I first came in)?

4. Can I still apply for a 60 day tourist visa or 1 yr. educational visa at any point after multiple exempt visa/visa run entries and extensions?

5. If yes to question 4, do I need to do this outside of Thailand?

Your responses would be much appreciated. Thanks!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user seeks clarification on extending their stay in Thailand with a 30-day exempt visa, the rules for visa runs, and the potential for applying for different types of visas. Responses indicate that only one 30-day extension is allowed for each 30-day entry stamp, with subsequent entries by land being limited to two times per year, and each entry can be extended once. For applying for a tourist or educational visa, the user would need to do this from outside Thailand.

Just to clarify Tod's excellent advice above, re your #2 -- you're allowed two visa exempt entries by land in each calendar year. You could go on Oct 1 and again in Dec, then again in Feb 2023 and April 2023. Each entry can be extended once. But you better be sure you meet all the other requirements for entry to Thailand.

I haven't read of any exceptions to the 45 day visa exemption. If you're a passport holder eligible for the new 45 days, it doesn't matter where or how you enter.

effective Oct 1 all 30 day visa exempt and 30 day visa waiver entries will increase to 45 days no matter if you enter by land or air

Good question?

That's risky as it's 4 in a 12 month period if the Immigration Officer applies the rule that way. I'm not convinced it's a calendar year but is a 12 month period. I'd be interested in other people's views and experiences.

there's NO such rule. It's at the discretion of the Thai immigration officer to either allow you entry or deny entry.

There is a limit of 2 Land border ENTRIES EACH calendar year.

@James *******
so it is calendar year, thanks

Yes it's a calendar year.

Everyone is only allowed one 30 day extension

1. NONE, you're "one and done" on 30 day extensions on a 30 day entry stamp

2. you can get a 30 day visa exempt entry by exiting/re-entering by land BUT you can only do that TWO times in a year.

3. every 30 day visa exempt entry can get ONE 30 day extension at the immigration office for 1900baht

4. sure go to a thai consulate in another country and apply for the tourist visa <- that's the only place you can get tourist visas to thailand

5. As far as the ED visa talk to the school you're thinking of enrolling in and see if they can do the ED visa inside or outside the country. It's school specific so they are who you need to be talking to
