Is it true it is now a 60 day stay stamp on arrival for tourists from certain countries (including USA)? I see that this was implemented in July of this year but just wanted to confirm

TLDR : Answer Summary
Yes, tourists from certain countries, including the USA, are now receiving a 60-day stay stamp upon arrival in Thailand. Additionally, travelers can apply for a one-time 30-day extension for a fee at a local Thai Immigration office. Despite this new policy, there are still some inquiries regarding the necessity of obtaining a 60-day visa in advance, as it appears that online visa services continue to accept applications for it.

Last month I didn’t get any stamp in my passport when I entered and left from Suvarnabhumi airport

@Jason ******
it's impossible to enter and not get a stamp

Not now because they use the new electronic system. My passport was not stamped
Brandon ************
@Jason ******
Only for Thai citizens. Other nationalities won't get to use electronic gates to enter Thailand until after the ETA system is online. The only electronic gates for foreigners are for exiting Thailand.

I don’t know how to make it any clearer…. I entered on the 13th and left on the 29th October and I wasn’t stamped in or out.

I was in the same queue as I’ve always been.

The immigration officer asked me where I was staying and how long I was going to be in Thailand.

That was it, no stamps in my passport!

Really? Then why does Thai online visa service still accept 60-day visa applications from Americans?

with a visa you are on the safe side

careful with that broad brush comment

Holding a valid visa to thailand doesn't guarantee you get IN to the country, only that IF they let you in you get stamped in for the length of time that visa allows

There is really no benefit to getting a single entry tourist visa before you come here unless you're from a country who doesn't get 60 days free stamp
Peter **********
@Tod ********
that is true. Just the airline might dislike if you want to do boarding with an empty passport

No difference still stamped in until the same date.

@Eugène *****
why wouldn't they? The visa still exists and therefore you can still apply for it. Plus there are still a lot more countries in the world that don't qualify for visa exempt than do, and they would still want to apply for that visa. Those people might be in the US or somewhere else while wanting to apply.

well, I wasn't aware of the automatic 60-day stamp and wasted $40 plus time on the same visa application...

that will teach you to do better research!! It was well publicised

hmm 🤔 after 60 days can get one 30 days extension of stay at your local Thai Immigration office for 1900 Thai baht.

90 days report not due until you're in Thailand for 90 days.
