I have a question (and if it's a repeat, let me know and I'll remove it. I did search for it here and anywhere else, can't find it).

There is now a 45 day visa exemption for Americans, and others. Is that 45 day exemption extendable another 30 days? I want to have enough time to get an ED visa in-country.

Thank you.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The 45-day visa exemption for Americans is generally extendable for an additional 30 days at an immigration office. However, there is conflicting information regarding its extendability; some sources, including a Thai embassy representative, state it is not extendable. If you intend to apply for an Educational (ED) visa, it's advisable to check with the relevant educational institution, as some are uncertain about issuing such visas at this time.

Can a visa waiver be converted to a retirement visa?

In country, you need to have funds in a Thai bank account 2 months prior to applying, and it can be quite difficult to open one and then 'season' the funds in that amount of time (if you don't have account already). This is true even if you get an extension (which the poster above's email would suggest you cannot), what with quarantine etc. You might be better off getting retirement visa in your home country, if available, because then the funds only need to be seasoned in your own bank account.

I have been advised by Thai Embassy in London that the 45 day visa exemption is NOT extendable.

And happy to show this forum the email to prove it if needed!

Why not get a visa if worried about timing? Doesn’t take long.

Yes however i just spoke to duke ed school.and they are not sure if they can issue an ed visa. They will know more in a month.

Yes. Visa exemption entries are extendable once for a further 30 days. Depending on the Covid situation you may be able to extend further than that but that’s speculation and almost certainly immigration office dependant.
