TLDR : Answer Summary
The chances of UK tourists entering Thailand for the Christmas season in 2020 are extremely low due to stringent travel restrictions and visa requirements imposed by the Thai government. Current policies allow only a limited number of visas, and those wanting to enter may face a mandatory 14-day quarantine, which involves significant costs. Additionally, travel to rural areas does not alleviate these restrictions, and potential visitors are advised to wait until conditions improve, possibly in 2022.

No chance unless those friends have a company and give you a work permit

Where you plan on going makes no difference at all. Where you are coming from, and your passport, make all the difference in the world, as a tourist. You will not make it by Christmas, unless you want to spend bt500,000 for an Elite visa, as they are starting to be let in, and still must do 14 days quarantine at their expense.

No a chance of going for Christmas. Even if it was possible it would be 2 weeks in quarantine in Bangkok at 90k+ Baht and then if you went to a rural village as an outsider the village chiefs probably insist on another period of quarantine; doesn't sound like fun does it !!

quarantine just doesn’t need to be that price. You can get it for less than 30,000 so it’s not expensive unless you want it to be
