TLDR : Answer Summary
A friend planning to visit Thailand in April from the UK is seeking advice on the best visa options for a 3-4 month stay. Comments suggest that a tourist visa would allow up to 90 days of stay, with possible extensions, while the STV (Special Tourist Visa) could offer an extended stay of up to nine months. However, it is noted that travel circumstances might change due to ongoing lockdowns in the UK.

I’m shutting this down. The Thai government has opened its borders to virtually all countries in the world. There are also no requirements to leave Thailand.

What other countries do before they allow a person to leave the country, or their requirements before they let you enter, is outside of the scope of the group.

I think the posters question has been answered. If it isn’t, send a message to a mod and we’ll reopen the post.

At the moment the Uk is under travel lockdown so April might be a little optimistic, I intend to come back as soon as possible but it’s a case of wait and see when

My statement is correct according to the UK Government. Holidays and leisure are not permitted. If you had actually read my statement it also says "Legally permitted reason to do so". So I fail to see your problem. By the way the OP does not mention the reason his friend is coming to Thailand.

See the UK.Gov website which clearly states "Under current UK COVID-19 restrictions, you must stay at home. You must not travel, including abroad, unless you have a legally permitted reason to do so. It is illegal to travel abroad for holidays and other leisure purposes".

Yes, as James suggests. If he wants longer go the STV. Total nine months

Tourist visa will give him 90 days max stay...60 days on arrival

Plus 30 day extension = 90
