Hi all, I am due to renew my retirement extension soon but the passport that my extension is in now expires next March. However, I do hold a second passport that they can put my renewal into. Is there anything special I need to do or is it just a case of take both passports and tell them which one to put the stamp in? Also, is there an extra charge for this?

Thanks in advance.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is inquiring about renewing their retirement visa extension in Thailand while holding two passports. They want to know if they can request the renewal to be placed in their second passport since their first one is expiring soon. Comments suggest complications with using two passports for visa extensions, indicating that typically, the extension is tied to the passport's expiration date.

UNless I'm totally mistaken people who hold two passports from the same country (which happens quite a lot actually) can't switch passports like that when they get new extensions.

I do not believe they'll let it fly. and you'd need to renew THIS passport and then transfer the stamps to the new renewed one

thanks for that. To make doubly sure I'll go ask at the IO. They're quite helpful at mine.

report back if you would and let us know what they say,

I know when people have two passports of different nationalities immigrations won't budge on swapping. BUT the two passports from the same country may fly or it may not ๐Ÿ˜• .

Good Luck with it (y)

Worst case what's gonna happen (if they say you can't use the second alternate passport and need to renew this current one) is that they'll give you a new extension until the passport the extension is in runs out (March 2023) and then that becomes your new 'renewal date' every year.

The extension of stay can ONLY be extended to the expiration date of your passport...which is in March 2023 per your post.

which passport holds your most recent entry stamp?

What is the expiration date of your second passport?

Are both passports from the same country?

I understand that. What I'm saying is that I have a second passport that they can put my renewal in, not the one that is going to expire.

that BORDER bounce idea is not workable.

Unless you leave ... re-enter using the 2029 passport.. BUT would mean you have to start all over with the retirement process.

Not advisable.

I thought that.

Updated reply....conferring with fellow Mods:

We Suggest...

You need to GO to your immigration office and ask them IF when you get this extension he can use the other passport from the same country for it?

OR ..

OR just buck up and take the extension until Next March in THIS passport

Then renews that passport, gets the stamps moved to the new one that replaced it and apply for a new year next March

that's exactly what I'm going to do.
