TLDR : Answer Summary
The poster asks whether their friend, who entered Thailand on a 30-day tourist visa, can extend their stay by applying for an extension at Changwattana or if they must make a border run to Laos. Commenters clarify that the correct term is a visa exemption stamp and discuss the options available, including paying for an extension or making a border run to another country.

Either or he can do....฿1,900 at CW for 30 days....or 6-10 hours on a minivan to a border for a border bounce....or fly In/Out to Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Vietnam, HK, etc...
