Can I Use My Parent's Bank Statement for a Muay Thai DTV Visa in Thailand?

A Muay Thai (soft power) DTV applicant here. My question is, some people claim that I can show the bank statement of my father, some people say it has to be my personal account, family account is not accepted. I read a few posts about people bringing a sponsorship letter from their parents and use their statements for the visa. What was your experience? Did any of you accepted this way?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The inquiry revolves around whether a DTV (Digital Nomad Visa) applicant can use a parent’s bank statement for their visa application instead of their personal account. Some comments suggest that a sponsorship letter from a parent is acceptable, while others stress the importance of having the funds in the applicant’s name. Experiences shared indicate that a considerable amount of funds in the applicant's account is still necessary, even if using a parent's account or sponsorship.

I got approved with a sponsorship letter from my stepdad! His account! Not mine - but i had to show a decent amount of money (not further defined) on my account as well as 6 months of proof of income (me) and proof of relationship to the sponsor!

We declared quite clearly that in the very unlikely event of me running out of money he would step in for all the necessary expenses!

I had no issues with that…

I read that the account needs to be a personal account and in your name. However, I hope your application gets accepted. Better to leverage geographical arbitrage to learn new skills and learn to earn money 💰 in a more independent manner online, here in Thailand, than to save one's pennies over the years, overworked and underpaid, working for tight companies like i have. Better to sidestep all that nonsense if you can. Sincerely, good luck!

I really respect the grind you had been through. I assume that it taught you a lot of things about life.

Anonymous participant Mostly teaching biology, supply/substitute teaching, simultaneous warehouse work security guard work and construction labouring.

Taught me heaps about communication, conflict resolution and hard work, running on fumes, working with no energy in the tank.

After my good friend, Dave, died of cancer at 62 having lived a similar life to me but older, the most important lessons I learnt are to follow your gut, learn from others' mistakes, make your own mistakes, use fear as a fuel and remember that I'm going to have to give a good account of how I used this life at the end. Regret is the worst feeling.

We really need to stop letting these little teenagers into thailand with no money and have to ask mommy and daddy to bail them out. I see it way too much.

I am 28 with 10 years of work experience. it is popular amongst eastern countries to have a family account. All the brothers work and the father collects it under his name. And all the family expenses are under his control.

Anonieme deelnemer And that is just why Thailand ask for personal accounts, they want to have financial independent people in the country, not people who are dependent from parents, unless those parents also have DTV visa

Sounds questionable

500K is not a lot

If you don’t have the money why come to Thailand

I have the money, the money is in the family account under the name of my father.

Anonieme deelnemer When the money is in a family account, it is technically not your money. You are not free to do with it what you want.

I have the sponsorship letter from the father that he is willing to support all the expenses.
Luit *****************
Anonieme deelnemer That might help, but it does not change the fact that money in a family account is not your money.

What in case you get an argument with your father for whatever reason?

There is a reason why they ask for mondy in a personal account.

And I personally think it is strange to keep your own money in a family account, I would never do so, but that is your bussiness of course.

Anonymous participant to be safe put the money into an account in your name. If your name is in the family account then make sure there is 500K per person in the account, forinstance you, your father and mother on the account, minimum of 1.5 million baht in the account. But, better to have an account in your name only. An accompanying brief cover letter explaining, and sponsorship letter should be included in the application.

If you don't have funds why would be coming to Thailand for 5 years ! Unless mommy and daddy is playing

Anonymous participant 960 this is a family account. All my brothers collect the money at the same account which is under the name of my father. It is an eastern thing.

Typically a sponsorship letter is from a primary DTV holder for their spouse or children. You can try.

Laos, Taiwan, maybe Myanmar. However, most will be switching over soon. I believe Laos has no appointments available

Laos finishes on 20 Dec. E-visa January

Anonymous participant Yes, once you submit payment, there is no getting it back. This is why many tried to complete the process in-person, as they would not take your money if you didnt have the documents.
