Hi there,

2 questions:

1) I need to renew retirement visa for me and my 4 years old daughter. I just discovered that her passport will expire on July 2019, so about 3 months before the final date of the potential new one year visa extension. Any one is aware if the Visa Office will accept such passport for the renewal?

2) how earlier can i apply for retirement visa extension before its expiration (expires on November 15)?

Thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user has two questions regarding their retirement visa and their 4-year-old daughter's requirement for renewing her visa. They are concerned about their daughter's passport expiring shortly before applying for a visa extension and whether it will be accepted. They also want to know the timeline for applying for the retirement visa extension. The community responses suggest obtaining a new passport for the daughter before applying, as extensions may only be valid until the expiring passport date. Additionally, both can apply for a new extension 45 days before their current one expires.

All my Extension of stay permits have Retirement stamped above it is a separate stamp from permit stamp, maybe this explains some people calling them Retirement visas

It's stamped in english because the immigration officers got tired of telling people there is NO extension based on retirement :O

The actual rule that you get your extension on is ONLY because you're over 50 and for "living out the end of your life" <- กรณีใช้ชีวิตในบั้นปลาย

I have only seen a few extensions that had "end of your life" in thai most have the word RETIREMENT stamped in english on it.

Get a new passport for your daughter BEFORE you apply for the yearly extension.

They went to a policy that IF your passport is not valid for the year extension when you apply you ONLY get an extension valid until the passport expires.

Seeing as your new extension will be valid until Nov 26, 2019 you should get a new passport for your daughter OR her extension will only be good until July 2019.

thanks a lot Tod, I confirm what you said is correct, just went to Promenada today

they used to let you come back after you got your new passport and get the rest of the extension without any more paperwork, BUT now they don't and you need to get all the documentation again, apply AND pay another 1900baht just to get the rest of the year's extension.

Okay, there is a line above Retirement in Thai Language. I can not read Thai sorry, but I guess it will mean dependent on your Extension of Stay. You both can apply 45 days beore 26 Nov for a New Extension of Stay.
Robert *******
Thanks, so my guess as dependent is correct.

The Thai script reads ติดตามครอบครัว which translates to 'Follow family' on Google translate. Just saying.

The big question first is what do you want and on what kind of Visa or Extension of Stay are you both in Thailand. a Retirement Visa, even when many love to talk about it does not exist. The official name is Non Immigrant O visa based on being over 50 years of age or it could be Extension of Stay based on being over 50 years of age. Seeing that your daughter is only 4 years old it is impossible that she has this visa or Extension. Requirements, rules and regulations are different between the Visa and the Extension of Stay, so as long as we do not know what is inside the passport we can not give you any advice.

ติดตามครอบครัว <- is follow family :)

@Robert ******
Robert it basically says following the family.

You can apply 45 days before 26 Nov for a NEW 1 year Extension of Stay.
Robert *******
Your daughter could have almost the same stamp but definitely not the red Retirement next to it.
Robert *******
As you can read on the second line of the stamp this is an Extension of Stay not a visa.

Thanks Robert, it’s a Non Immigrant O visa based on being over 50. My daughter has same visa type on her passport
