TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking urgent advice regarding their retirement visa expiring on December 13, 2023, while their passport is valid only until February 14, 2024. Various responses indicate that it's possible to apply for an extension based on the current passport's validity. However, the extension will only be granted until the passport's expiration date. It's strongly advised to renew the passport before applying for a visa extension to avoid complications, as Thai immigration typically requires a passport to be valid for at least six months. Users also share experiences about the renewal process and suggest contacting the embassy or a visa service for assistance.

Why did you wait so long to apply for a new passport. This should have been started 4 to 6 months ago. Maybe you might have to go back to your country and get a new passport issued seeing time is running out.
Go to nans services in pattaya..she is brilliant and very good prices.

Yes you can. Depending upon your home country you may not be able to get a "letter" asking Thai Immigration to transfer the visa from the old to the new. But that should not be a problem. Renewing a US Passport from overseas takes about 6 weeks. Plan on that length of time.... though it might be qicker.

Actually you can.
Apply for a new passport.
Just inform immigration that the new passport processing.
After the visa done - get a letter to transfer the visa to new passport.
Get a new passport asap! Also keep the copy of the old passport, you need both new and old number. Dubai and Qatar (I assume you are from Doha) , always accommodate the passport urgency. Once you have new passport, submit the new application before the visa deadline.
In rare occasion you might be able to renew your visa now and explain to the authorities that you are on the process of getting a new passport . You might as well get a letter from your embassy that your new passport is on its way.
Nevertheless you need new passport asap.
All you can do-it-yourself. Donāt pay for the services claimed by some companies that they can help. Save your $$&
Expedite your passport asap. Copy your old one as it will have to go with the renewal application. Also your renewal payment receipt and paperwork, that may help. Reapply also after youāve started for PP. same day if possible.
. I'd be careful with that advice. New passports often have new passport numbers, rendering passport number void on extension application if you don't wait for new passport first.
It about the same price, if you use agency will be the same with start the new one when you get passport but you need to make sure you get it by the time passport expires, the only renew event you have to pay twice let say
Start new 35,000
Renew 18,000 bath Then renew in February 18,000 bath
So only 1000 different,
Renew it each time took 1 day that the good thing
The new one is waiting a month to get 15 months stamp but it mean you get more date but have to go out
If you donāt want to travel renew better option that mean you need to make sure it coming back by February

Uk now passport take 15 day, Australia 7 day if applicable in good I donāt know what passport holder you have
that's your own fault. You have to go through the full application process at immigration both times. But you failed to renew your passport when you should have so now you'll have to pay the price twice
Beware "Discretion" can be used to break/bend their own policies. This is Thailand. Written rules are not viewed in the same way as in the West.

You will get an extension up until your passport expiry date. I'd go get the extension asap then apply for a new passport immediately and hope you get it in time to apply for another extension in February
It will fall under "discretion" and usually Immigration discretion does not favor the foreigner.

nice to hear there is flexibility somewhere in the world - any office in any country I am aware of you need 6 month minimum left on your passport - basic travel knowledge.
ahhhhhhhhhhh ah I was just showing, er explaining, IF someone was stupid enough to jump at the thought that they knew what was going on, that would be the answer....cough cough....

Renew your passport before the visa expires

You can apply for an extension yes, but your extension will only be until the end of your passport validity. So if you are granted an extension it will be until 14 February. Then you need to get a new passport and you will have to apply for an extension again before 14 February, and this will be your new annual extension date.
