Hi there, seeking advice about a visa transfer. We will get our visas renewed in Bangkok (living in Chiang Mai) - but need to transfer my daughters visa to a new passport shortly afterwards. Does anyone know of any reason we couldn't do that visa transfer in Chiang Mai? Or is it necessary to do that in Bangkok because that's where our visas are renewed? Many thanks...

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking advice on whether they can transfer their daughter's visa to a new passport in Chiang Mai after having their own visas renewed in Bangkok. A commenter clarifies that it's important to get the daughter's passport renewed prior to obtaining visa extensions, as the validity of her visa extension will depend on her passport's expiration date. The commenter reassures that transferring the visa stamp to the new passport can be done easily at any immigration office.

I will assume you mean getting your yearly extension, and not renewal, as technically there is no renewal. Be fully aware that your daughter's extension will only be valid for as long as her passport is valid. Get her passport renewed before you get your extensions, or you will have to do her extension again when she gets her new passport. If her current passport is only good for a few months before it expires, then her extension will only be good for that long, not the whole year. This will also make her future extension date different than yours. It is very easy to get the extension stamp transferred to her new passport at any immigration office.

Thanks a million Kool, it's a renewal, we renew her immig O visa as she is dependent on my immig non-B. Is it still the case that we would have to re-do the renewal after the visa transfer? Also, do you know whether it is ok for the transfer to happen in CM where the actual renewal is done in Bangkok (through BOI)?

it's not the visa transfer that dictates renewal, it's the passport expiry
