So, under a 90-day non-immigrant visa, am I allowed to travel in and out of Thailand? If not, can I pair it with a multiple entry permit? I'm just wondering if I will need to stay put for 90 days in Thailand.

TLDR : Answer Summary
You can travel in and out of Thailand on a 90-day Non-Immigrant Visa, but you need to obtain a re-entry permit to maintain your entry status. A single entry visa will allow for one-time travel, requiring a re-entry permit if you leave and wish to return within the 90 days. Alternatively, a multiple entry visa allows for unlimited travel within the year of issuance. The 90-day stay begins upon entry into Thailand, not on the date of visa issuance.

@J**
, nope you can't get a 30 day extension on a Non-O. You could like
@St***
, said get an extension based on having a thai wife or kids and that's for 60 days.

Other than that, nope, you either apply for the yearly extension or you leave thailand to get another visa and start over

I'm applying in the USA. After 90 days, I want to convert/extend to a retirement visa

. Im pretty sure you can extend the non imm visa by 30 days or 60 days if you have Thai dependents, ie wife or child

Ok...that makes sense.

By the way, is it possible to tack on another 30 days to the 90 days?

That'll work, but IF you're gonna need to leave thailand after you get that 90 day admitted until stamp (when you first arrive here on that visa) you'll hafta buy a re-entry permit from the immigration office or you'll cancel your permission to stay when you stamp out.

What type of Non-Immigrant Visa are you applying for, what is the reason and where are you going to apply for one?
Tod *********
You either apply for a single entry or a multiple entry Non-Immigrant visa.

If you get a multiple entry one it is good for a year from the date it's issued and if you get a single entry one it's good for 90 days from the date it's issued.

When you enter thailand you'll get stamped in for 90 days. If you have a single entry one and need to leave and come back during those 90 days you'd need a re-entry permit to keep your original 90 day expiration stamp "alive" so when you return you're stamped in until that date.

Buying a re-entry permit on a single entry visa of any type doesn't add any days to your admitted until stamp.

On your visa is written "Entries". Underneath you see a S for single or a M for multiple. I assume due to the 90 days you have a Single entry Non Immigrant Visa. This means enter once, get admitted to stay maximum 90 days. If you want to travel during these 90 days you can buy a Single re-entry permit for 1000 Thb at Immigration or Airport for 1 time travel or a Multiple re-entry permit for 3800 Thb for unlimited travels during these 90 days. Every time you come back to Thailand the same Admitted to date as given based on your original Non Immigrant visa will be the last date. You will not gain extra days.

With the Non Immigrant O visa you need to enter Thailand before the enter before date on the visa and you get a new stamp in your passport which says: Admitted to Stay ../../.. that will be 90 days including day of arrival.

This is good info. Does the 90 day clock start with date of issue or date of entry? (I'll likely get my visa 2-3 weeks before leaving for Thailand.)

Yes, this is the purpose of the re-entry permit. You can get at the airport before flying or at an immigration office.

Get a re-entry permit and you should be okay.
