Hopefully a simple question…. If I come to Thailand on a 3 month tourist visa, does that allow me to leave and come back during that 3 months or do I need to stay in Thailand for that 3 months. Thanks!

TLDR : Answer Summary
If you enter Thailand on a 60-day tourist visa, it is a single entry visa, meaning you cannot leave and return without voiding your existing stamp. You can extend your stay for 30 days for a total of 90 days, but if you leave, you will need to obtain a re-entry permit prior to leaving if you wish to maintain your current entry status. Alternatively, you could exit Thailand and return on a visa-exempt entry for 30 days, which can also be extended.

If a history of spending a lot of time here and you aren't married to a thai or under 50, best of luck
Chris ***********
If you dont have a history of staying in thailand long term the past 2 to 3 years, eg covid or ed extensions and If you only want to bounce in and out of Thailand for 3 or 4 months with side trips a regular visa exempt 30 + 30 extension should be fine 2x, not clear how much time you spent here since 2020?
Chris ***********
If you want to stay in Thailand longer, you can extend for 30 days...if you want to go to other countries that original entry is void and finished
Chris ***********
No, it's single entry 60 day stamp, how hard is it to understand the rules

The Tourist Visa is valid for 90 days. Which means you can enter Thailand up to 90 days after the Visa is issued. The duration is 60 days. A 30 day extention is available. However, if you plan to travel to other neighboring countries then plan to leave before the 60 days and return on a 30 day Visa exempt entry. If you are visiting multiple neighboring countries then you could just enter Visa exempt and leave before 30 days each entry. No Visa required.

Arrrrr... Folks, why argue? If he truly believes this is a 90 days TV then let him stay 90 days. That's all. Let him believe whatever he wishes to believe...

there is no 3-months Tourist Visa.

If you mean the 60-days Tourist visa, which can be extended on Immigration ONCE for 30 more days, summing up to 90 days stay, then you should note the following advice:

The 60 Days tourist visa is a “SINGLE ENTRY” category tourist visa.

This means you can only enter Thailand ONE TIME and receive 60 says “stay permit”

Theoretically, you could buy a re-entry permit for 1000.- Baht, which would keep your 60 days stay permit alive, if you left Thailand and re-enter during the period of these 60 days.

The question is, will this make sense or not? Will it be fit to your travel plans?

You can stay the first 60 days, then leave Thailand, have a holiday in a neighbouring country and re-enter “visa-exempt”. This will give you 30 days stay permit, which you can extend on Immigration for 1900.- THB for 30 more days.

After this your options are limited, theoretically you can add one more 30 days “visa-exempt” entry by doing a ”border run”

Come in visa free if you are going to be leaving so soon

The normal tourist visa is single entry. You can get the multi entry variant if you want to leave and return. Alternatively, just use 30 day visa waivers.

Would an exit stamp also be needed?

There's no 3 month tourist visa.

A tourist visa will give you permission to stay in Thailand for 60 days. The day you arrive is counted as day 1.

You are also able to apply for a 30 day extension, potentially giving you 90 days total.

If you want to leave and return and keep your existing stamp from being cancelled when you leave, you would need to purchase a re-entry permit before you leave.

@Brandon ***********
I have never heard of a re-entry stamp for a tourist visa. Are you sure about that?
Brandon ************
@Terry *******
there's pretty much no point in it. The vast amount of people are eligible for visa exempt. So the use case for a re-entry permit on a tourist visa is very small. But I doubt they'll have any issue taking your money and selling it to you if you ask.
Alistair **********
Is it a 60 day single entry Tourist visa you're talking about? If so, when you leave the country the stamp is void. You can probably purchase a re-entry permit before leaving, generally used by people with long term visas but I assume they allow it for 60 day Tourist visa as well.

There's a multi entry tourist visa, that allows you to leave and everytime you re enter you get a new 60day stamp. Or if you hold a passport from a visa exempt country, you can enter that way and be stamped in for 30 days.

@Alistair *********
you can not get a re-entry permit for a tourist visa.
Stuart *********
@Terry *******
Yes you can. It doesn’t hold a great benefit as you only keep your existing “allowed to stay until” date but you can get one.
Alistair **********
@Terry *******
have you tried? I've not seen anyone try and apply for one before on a TV, but the wording on the requirements for a re entry permit don't seem to exclude tourist visas.

@Alistair *********
no, I’ve never tried. I’ve just never heard of it before or know anyone who has.

thanks. That’s what I need to know

I think the tourist visa is 60 days and you can extend for 30 days. If you leave you can come back in on 30 day visa exempt then extend again for 30 days
Frank **********
There is no 3 month tourist visa. It is what Tony said.
Taz **********
I’ve seen it on n the consulate over many years 90 day single entry tourist visa

The last thing me I was there was about 14 months ago
Roy ***********
@Taz *********
perhaps you are confused about the difference between the validity of the visa - which simply gives you that much time to ENTER the country. Then when you enter on that single entry tourist visa, you get a stamp indicating you are permitted to stay for 60 days. So the visa is not going to allow you to stay for 90 days, you get stamped in for 60 days,which technically is only 59 days, and you can extend that in-country for 30 more days.
Taz **********
They call it a 90 day Visa however it’s 60 days plus 30 day extension

Because on tourist visa you can only stay 60 days

On there 6 months METV you have to boarder bounce every 60 days however it is still a 6 month visa
Taz **********
It’s a single entry tourist visa, not multiple entry

90 tourist visa not thinking of the OA VISA
Taz **********
Nigel *********
@Taz *********
I can see what's confusing you. 😉 . You have 3 months (90 days) to use the visa from the day it's issued..Then you get stamped in for 60 days extendable once for 30 more days. Easy to get confused
Taz **********
@Frank *********
there is a 90 day tourist visa available from Australia
Bob **********
@Taz *********
the visa is valid for 90 days but on entry only 60 days but you can extend for 30 days once
Shane **********
@Bob *********
not correct Bob, the visa is valid for 60 days with an option to apply for a 30 day extension which isn’t guaranteed.
Bob **********
@Shane *********
been here 14 years and never heard of anyone getting turned down on an extension the visa is valid for 90 days you must enter in that time frame and you’ll get 60 days + 30 exte
Shane **********
Bob D'Andrea yes the visa is valid for 90 days from the date of issue for a stay of 60 days with the possibility of a 30 day extension.
Frank **********
@Taz *********
you may be thinking about the 90 day Non-O maybe.
Taz **********
@Frank *********
It’s a single entry tourist visa, not multiple entry

90 tourist visa not thinking of the OA VISA
Taz **********
Taz **********
Chris *****
@Taz *********
doesn’t this clearly state it’s good for only 60 days ? It’s only valid for 90 days but not for number of days in country no?
Frank **********
@Taz *********
read the whole thing 60 days plus a thirty day extension which you apply for in Thailand. This TR has to be used WITHIN 90 days.
Luc ************
@Taz *********
which one? Tell us.
Taz **********
Sheen ************
@Luc ***********
why not look it up yourself
Luc ************
@Sheen ***********
I don't have to because I know there's nothing like a 3 month tourist visa 🤷‍♂️🙄
Chris *******
@Taz *********
no there is no such animal.
Taz **********
Chris *******
@Taz *********
no "they" do not call it that.

Possibly you do.

It is a TR60, 60 day single entry visa.

Which can be extended one time only for 30 days.

The extension is not included in the visa.
Chris *******
@Taz *********
okay because you cannot read.

I will explain to you, the visa is valid for 90 days, that is how long you have to use it.

The length of stay is 60 days.
Taz **********
@Chris ******
I can read, in the consulate they advertise it as a single entry 90 day visa, however this is all I could see on the internet

Same as the 6 month METV is a 6 month visa, however you have to boarder bounce every 60 days

I used to do the METV every year for 5 years before going on to a retirement visa

Other ppl would do a 90 day single entry tv from Sydney Thai consulate
Andre *********
@Taz *********
It‘s clearly mentioned that the Visa is valid for 90 days, that means if the visa was issued on 01. March you can enter Thailand till 29. May. After entering Thailand you can stay 60 days, with the option of one extension of 30 days. So finally you can stay with extension 90 days. However it’s just a 60 days TR Visa.
Tore *********
@Taz *********
no one calls them 3 and 6

Months visas 😉 They are both 60 day visas, single vs multiple entry. In both cases (extendable) 60 days per entry. But you have 3 or 6 months to “activate” them by entering into Thailand within that (validity) time.

There was a STV visa that had 90 days that has been discontinued.
Taz **********
You can only stay 60 days at a time on a tourist visa
Tony *********
You can get a 60 tourist visa and extend 1 time for an extra 30 day at a cost of 1900baht . However it is only a single entry only .
