Can I leave Thailand, travel to another country and re-enter if I have a Non-B visa and work permit?

I have read that I still need to apply for multiple re-entry permit if I want to do so, but am not very clear with what I have read online.

My company is getting me a work permit soon but I would like to fly out to meet my family every 3 or 4 months. Mind sharing any experience?

TLDR : Answer Summary
Yes, you can leave Thailand and re-enter with a Non-B visa and work permit, but you must apply for a re-entry permit to maintain your current visa status. A re-entry permit can be obtained at the airport or any immigration office, available as either a single entry (1,000 THB) or multiple entry (3,800 THB). It's advisable to apply for the re-entry permit at an immigration office prior to departure for a streamlined process.

Make it at the Immigration office the 1st time, only to go safe.

You can get a single re-entry permit at the airport (or go to any immigration office before hand). Give yourself a bit more time to do it, and explain to immigration that you want to get it before going to the departure lounge. 1000baht.. a couple of photos (?) copies of passport, visa and maybe the work permit. I forget the exact documents, but you can find out on the Thai immigration website. Fill in the form and hand over 1000baht for a single re-entry (i seem to remember you will be asked the exact return date...be aware of the day time u expect to get to the immigration desk when u return.. especially if landing just before midnight). If you will do it many times with-in one visa, get a multiple.

Unless you have exactly all documents including the filled application form, you need to pay +200thb for re-entry permit if you buy it at Suvarnabhumi airport.

Ah.. ok. Got ya. And the actual fee for the the re-entry permit. Don't remember Don Muang charging me for docs, but was many years ago. I prefer to get it done at an inmigration office, like Cheang Wattana. Would do it on a 90 day declaration trip or visa renewal, if it coincided.

you first need to understand a work permit does NOTHING as far as letting you stay here (which you do with the visa and extension) OR let you leave and come back (which you do with a re-entry permit) ๐Ÿ™‚

You need a re-entry permit separately from your extension to keep your current stamp valid. A re-entry permit is single entry (1,000thb) or multiple entry (3,800thb).

Thank you. I am aware of that. Do you perhaps know if I can visit another country (KL) right after getting a WP and then enter Thailand again? or need to apply for multiple entry visa beforehand?

Did you read

's comment carefully?

Your re-entry permit expires at the same time as your current stamp, NOT your work permit.

Anytime you leave Thailand you need a re-entry permit, otherwise, you lose your current stamp (entry, first 90days or extension) and you have to do the process over again. Depending on your stamp, you can decide which of single or multiple re-entry would be better.
