Can I apply for a 60-day single-entry visa for Thailand and still leave and re-enter?

If I apply for a 60 day single-entry visa.. but I want to leave the country and re-enter at some point, is this possible? Heard something about maybe being able to get a “re-entry permit”. Multiple entry is more expensive so trying to find an alternative if I decide to visit another country whilst I’m there

Thanks!

TLDR : Answer Summary
If you apply for a 60-day single-entry visa to Thailand but want to leave and re-enter the country, you may need a re-entry permit to maintain your visa status. The necessity of a re-entry permit largely depends on how you plan your travel. If you exit during the first 30 days of your visa, a re-entry permit makes sense; otherwise, you can avoid the permit if simply leaving for a short trip and returning on a visa-exempt basis, which grants you a new 30-day stamp upon re-entry.

Just pay £150 Pounds for a 60day multiple entry visa.

It’s just a couple of drinks.

I hate brokies 💀

that's pointless and requires a lot more paperwork. It has nothing to do with the price. Why would you pay for a visa valid for 6 months when you're not even coming for half that?

If you're going to be in and out a couple of times and spend time outside Thailand (not just a day or two) you'd be better just just leaving and re-entering on visa-exempt basis and getting 30 day stamp each time which can be extended a further 30 days. Keep in mind if re-entering via a land border you can do this only twice in any calendar year

I wouldn't be basing my whole travel strategy on one ticket. Either hire an outward bound ticket through onwardticket.com or buy a cheap air or bus ticket out of the country. Some people are saying you can buy a flight to Cambodia for about 800 baht. Don't screw up travel plans for the sake of a pissant amount

thanks, my return flight is after 50 days which is why I didn’t think it’d be possible to be visa-exempt, as I read that I need proof of exit when I enter Thailand

It depends on when you plan on going. Based on your name, you're probably from a country eligible for visa exempt, which is a 30 day entry stamp if you don't have a visa.

So if you leave during your first 30 days of your 60 day tourist visa, it might make sense to get a re-entry permit if you'll be back before you have 30 days left on your stamp, because you would get 30 days when you returned without a visa. But if you plan on leaving from day 20-60 of your trip, it doesn't make sense to get a re-entry stamp because you'll already be getting 30 days when you enter without a visa.

Depending on when you want to travel outside of Thailand, it might not make sense to get a tourist visa at all.

good advice, thanks! I’ll be flying out at the end of October from UK.. my return flight is after 50 days which is why I need to get a 60 day visa. Just wanted to know if there was a way of maybe visiting another country before my return flight from Bangkok, which sounds like is possible with the re-entry permit that you mentioned

just do two Visa Exempt entries with 30 day stamps then, just leave before day 30
