Is it possible to stay visa free for 60 days, then travel out of Thailand for maybe a month, then get another 60 day visit back in Thailand?

TLDR : Answer Summary
Yes, it is generally possible to stay in Thailand for 60 days visa-free, travel out of the country, and return for another 60 days, as long as you comply with specific requirements. However, there are important considerations: repeating this process multiple times in a year could raise flags with immigration, and new regulations limit tourist stays to a maximum of 90 days a year. Additionally, the entry method (land vs. air) and showing proof of onward travel can affect your re-entry.

It really depends on the immigration officer

2 times is max pr. Year and you need to fly in. No land or see transport.

people are getting misinformed and confused.

The changes limit extensions not entries.
Gemneye ******
Not anymore. New visa rules just announced. If you aren't on a long-term visa, you can only stay in Thailand a maximum of 90 days per year on a tourist visa. That's 60 days + 1 30-day extension. That's it for a year.

@Gemneye *****
so not two trips of 60 days separated by 4 months? It's important I know this as I plan to visit Jan and Feb then June and July
Antanas *************
@Gemneye *****
yes that's correct but if you used those 60+30 this year logically it must be possible to use them next year again. Because as they said in one calendar year
Gemneye ******
@Antanas ************
I literally said "90 days per year" in my comment.
Jay *******
@Gemneye *****
wrong, 2 visa exempt entries for a total of 150 days a calendar year. You can only extend one of the entries
Gilberto ********
Plus 7 days
Peter *******
@Gilberto *******
incorrect, 1 guy was given 7 days to leave the country.
Antanas *************
@Jay ******
if you use 60+ 30 will they still allow you to go to Thailand and give you another 60 days?
Gemneye ******
@Antanas ************
There is supposed to be an official announcement tomorrow (Monday).
Peter *******
@Gemneye *****
incorrect, you can come in and extend, then come in again, but don't try extending a second time
Gilberto ********
Exactly
Gemneye ******
@Peter ******
How is that different from what I said?

Benjamin *********
@Gemneye *****
you said only one 60+30 is allowed. But actually you can get 60+30 and then 60+7. It even says so in the link you provided.
Peter *******
@Benjamin ********
This is what happened to a guy who tried to extend another 30 days, the immigration gave him 7days to leave the country, its not a rule, dont rely on your immigration office doing this, there has been a misunderstanding that this has become a rule.
James ********
@Gemneye *****
please show us this official announcement or accept a bs tag.

@Gemneye *****
if you read what he says right below the video, he says you can stay 150 days. Again, I don’t think this is an official video though, but probably fairly accurate.
Greg ********
As long as you can show your flight home and actually go home
Jim *******
@Greg *******
Not true, if that becomes required, just go out of Thai to wherever. Plane, train or bus.

@Jim ******
and you live in Tokyo. Nope not officially signed but the immigration can start to follow the rules accordingly
Antanas *************
Once per calendar year if you entered first time in 2025 then the second time you enter next year in 2026 it counts as a new calendar year and everything resets if I understand correctly….
Jay *******
@Antanas ************
2 visa exempt entries per year. Can only extend one
Antanas *************
@Jay ******
so this year I already used it, next year will be a new calendar year I can use it again it is like by the rules...

@Antanas ************
I would only consider doing this once a year
Steve ****
It is but they are cracking down. You might do this once but the second time you risk immediate deportation and blacklist
Graham ******
@Steve ***
FFS there will be no blacklist or deportation, just refused entry
Steve ****
@Graham *****
deported. Refused. Same same.

Blacklist. 2 entry max. Same same.
Nongnuch ********
@Steve ***
"deported" always comes with a ban. To get denied entry doesn't mean you get banned. Please quit posting nonsense and be willing to learn

@Steve ***
wrong.

that's what I thought

I hope it's OK, that's what I'm doing. 58 visa free, then fly to Vientiane for 3 weeks in Laos and fly back for 58. I'll have my accommodation, onwards ticket etc
Peter *******
@Mark **********
you will be ok, it's people extending their visas that is a problem,
Ralph *******
@Mark **********
They are clamping down on it.
John *********
@Mark **********
risky, you could easily be denied entry, best keep a watching brief
Stuart *********
Yes. That sort of typical tourist activity should not raise any red flags.

Coming for 60 days, extending for another 30 and then wanting to repeat that process would.

Another question!! If I had two months January and February then back to the UK, and back to Thailand June and July, would that be legal?
Peter *******
Abey *********
@Stuart ********
I visit four times a year two weeks at a time, I am retired, been told on some platforms I might get refused entry. I have visited three times this year and coming back on 29th December for two weeks, am I likely to get refused entry? And If I am refused entry what is the definition of a tourist?
Stuart *********
@Abey ********
That’s something no one can say for definite as it’s up to the individual immigration officer you hand your passport to.

With the new enforcement of the laws coming in to effect as of Monday they may see your previous history as an issue but personally I doubt it.

They are looking for habitual visa exempt entries and extensions to stay for a long term in Thailand (and therefore probably working).
Abey *********
@Stuart ********
I have never stayed more than two weeks, June and September I filled the TDAC online, I have never been questioned, surely they can see someone like me is plain old tourist not bucking the system.
Andy ******
@Abey ********
look like you ok genuine tourist.. if they question you just keep calm,nice and polite and explain them gently, I'm sure they recognize you make tourism and welcome you Thailand..
Stuart *********
@Abey ********
That should work fine. No promises. Good luck.
