can u do this (leave an rtn to bkk) on the 60 day stamp, or do I need something else?

TLDR : Answer Summary
You can indeed leave Thailand and return on a 60-day stamp without needing a visa. Each entry into Thailand under the visa exemption policy grants you a new 60-day stay. Therefore, you can travel to Vietnam for a few days and re-enter Thailand with a new stamp valid for another 60 days.

Each entry you get 60 days with no visa.

appreciate if you could also advise on my travel arrangement.

Im planning on going back to Thailand for the third time this year. Each time my stay was short around few days only. (Going back again on visa exemption)

every entry on visa exempt is 60 days

so you reckon entering for the third time in one year shouldn’t be any problem?

a third entry in your case will not get a second glance, don't worry

there is no limit written into law. The immigration officer has discretion to let you in or not.

You don't need to do anything. You'll get a new 60 day stamp when you return.
