TLDR : Answer Summary
As a tourist in Thailand, you can initially stay for 60 days on a visa exemption. However, entering Thailand multiple times in quick succession may lead to scrutiny from immigration officials. There is no official limit on the number of times you can re-enter, but many have reported increased questioning and some being denied entry after only a few re-entries, especially if officials suspect you're abusing the visa exemption system. It's recommended to maintain proof of your travel plans and financial means when entering to mitigate potential issues.

I done 54 days. Left for 12 days then came back and they questioned me. Asked to see tickets out the country. Asked where I was going and staying etc. I think the 3rd entry would be the problem.
Emma ********
It all depends on the IO you stand in front of , it's entirely their decision wether to allow you entry or not
Paul *******
If you get the 60 day visa exempt stamp and extend by a further 30 days at the Immigration office, Immigration class you as a tourist. If you then attempt to enter again on a visa exempt stamp, Immigration rightly consider that after on 90 day stay in the country that you are no longer a tourist but that you are attempting to live long term in the country. While there is no legal limit to the number of Visa exempt entries, once the Immigration officer believes that you are no longer visiting the country as a tourist he will deny you entry. 3. If you have already stayed for 90 days on a visa exempt entry, then in future to guarantee entry into Thailand, you need to obtain a long term visa suitable to the reason for your stay.

Until a Immigration officer denies you entry.

Most of the time I think they would give you a warning, let you in but make a note on your file

Make it easy because things have changed. So, we move things forward. Be proactive. To be able to show: cash money. 20k/30k THB cash.Those small amounts ease the few minutes you’re in front of the officer. Showing money makes you friends quickly. I wouldn’t stand in front of an officer with just my face and nothing else. Don’t let them think like a strict current officer. Also show: your accommodation reservation, your balance. In short, not just your hairstyle.

There are probably two or three visits a year, I think three is too many, so show your money.
David ***********
They are getting.much stricter on people trying to stay long term on visitor status. More and more are getting denied entry
Anthony ******************
I was told by Immigration at Bangkok Airport there was a general limit of two visits in a given calendar year, I had to fly back to Australia and secure an O visa. which I did But I am not clear if this is discretionary or policy. I am trying to clarify this. It makes sense and I would not be surprised if they regulate this, . .
James ********
I wonder why they bother.

Should be a police clearance from your home country and world wide criminal check then come and stay as long as you want. After all we all pay our way , bring heaps of money in to the country and are no burden on thailand. Just saying.

Not just you hie country butt any country where you have resided for 12 month or more in the last 10 years. (Australia has such a policy)

You can keep doing it until the immigration officer says you cant and refuses entry as he suspects you are abusing the visa system 👍

so how many warnings will they get then ❓..answer the OPs question

Isn't the correct answer until the IO looking at the computer decides you may be abusing the Visa system and denies you entry, As I stated ❓
Todd *********
@Paul **********
no, that’s not the correct answer. The IO works in compliance with immigration law. The individual IO has little or NO authority to do anything other than refer you to his/her superior for further assessment.

How many ‘warnings’? There is no limit. I know people who have been here 5-15 years without a visa. And so do you.

Opposite of what you stated

Todd *********
@Paul **********
if you took the time to talk to ‘the people you know’ in Thailand about their visa situation, you would be more educated about the realities. Not all of us need to depend on our wife for a marriage visa… so we learn the system well.

To answer the Ops question, yes he can keep doing that. There is no official limit. If he later decides to seek other longer term residency visas he can cross than bridge when he needs to

If you monitor the news there is e=serious debate and concern on this issue,
@Tim *******
channel for example. I was warned and I said I would travel back to Australia and apply for a non-0 visa (Which I did). I was first made aware of the two times visa exempt policy when I visited Laos and spoke to a senior embassy staff member. This was again reinforced when I flew to Vietnam and returned. Yes, it is evolving.

Paul ***********
Brian Couzens "visa system" 🤦.. Visa waivers are part of a visa system 🙄
Brian *********
@Pa**
I suppose so - it’s hard one isn’t it because visa exempt would imply no visa and was specifically developed to encourage longer term stays now I hear garbage on here that they don’t want longer term stays using this process. Which by definition means they have shot themselves in the foot. Personally and from all my associates and friends and colleagues who come here no one has experienced any issues and I would be shocked if they did as the whole point of this exemption is to not require a visa.
Paul ***********
Brian Couzens stop babbling...you are talking nonsense

Brian Couzens I am not angry at you princess..you clearly are seeking attention and projecting your insecurities by posting this rambling gibberish all the time

Quite obviously my remarks have triggered something from your childhood as child abuse is not topic that would come to my mind in the context of this thread about immigration and the number of entries to Thailand 🤔

You seem fixated

I did it yesterday, stayed 60, left and went to Vietnam for a week, came back to Thai.

They did, however, ask me when I would be leaving Thailand.

I said I had a flight home in 20 days and she said hmm ok then and stamped me in for another 60 days on arrival.

They are definitely scrutinising multiple entries much more these days.
Benny ***********
@Garry ******
Do you have singel ticket in to Thailand???

No I had a return ticket but it was 3 months in between, I also had a ticket out of Thailand, to Vietnam. Then a took a ticket from Viet and back to Thailand, then leave Thailand in another 20 days.

How often is at the discretion of the Immigration officer you are dealing with on the day you enter.

If in thier opinion you are not a genuine tourist and using repeated visa exemption to live in Thailand then you can be refused entry..

Once should be OK.

After that its a gamble until they stop you.
Anthony ******************
@Baz ********
That is why I think it is best they formalise the two "Visa Free" entries in a given calendar year.
Bob *********
@Baz ********
what baz said...
Andy ************
There's no official limit. Purely at the discretion of the immigration officer when you enter. Expect to be denied on your third attempt. As soon as they work out you're abusing the visa exempt concession, you're done, with a black mark on your immigration record. There's a reason Thailand has a variety of visas allowing longer stays
Frank ************

@Andy ***********
thanks Andy
Todd *********
@Frank ***********
to be fair, Andy is not being at all honest here. There is no black mark. You would be using the system available. And thousands do exactly what you are suggesting. Often for many years. But you need to learn and understand. And stay flexible :)
Andy ************
@Todd ********
Actually notations are made on immigration records! But anyway, the OP can believe what he wants! 👍
Brandon ************
There is no rule about it. You can do it until you can't. But since they changed visa exempt from 30 days to 60 days, they are much more strict. Many people getting pulled out of line at the airport and questioned by immigration after only leaving and returning once. Many people being denied entry as well after immigration believes they've spent too long in Thailand and are abusing free tourist entries.

You CANNOT stay long term or live in Thailand without an appropriate long term visa. Eventually you'll be denied entry and find yourself in a bad situation.

@Frank ***********
to echo what Brandon is saying, I've been using this method of entry for around a year now and the last two times I have been asked for information that they never used to ask for. Last time I was asked for the address of where I was staying and when he realised it wasn't a hotel he asked if I would be staying there the full month. This last entry I was asked to show proof of onward travel on top of being asked where I was staying again. I'm convinced they are building up to refuse my entry in the near future. I'm now doing what I should've done and lookingnst appropriate visas.
