Can I renew my Non-B visa for one year while I'm in Canada?

My Non B 1 year visa finishes July 20,2024 but I will be in Canada during that time. I spoke to my lawyer & he said I can apply to renew my visa maximum 45 days before it expires; however, I will be in Canada for 2 months prior, so the 45 days in advance doesnโ€™t work for me. He said the only other option is applying for the 3 months non B visa while in Canada, and then doing the whole 1 year visa process again when I return. Is there another option that maybe he doesnโ€™t know about? Is it not possible to renew my visa for 1 year while in Canada? Thanks for any help ๐Ÿ™

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquires about renewing their Non-B visa while in Canada, as their current visa expires on July 20, 2024. They discuss options with their lawyer and express concern that they cannot apply for renewal within the required 45-day period before expiration since they will be abroad. Commenters clarify that what the user holds may be an 'extension of stay' rather than a visa, and reiterate that renewing a visa or extension is not possible while outside Thailand. They suggest applying for a 90-day Non-B visa while in Canada, which would allow the user to then apply for a one-year extension upon return.

I've been in a similar situation once with my work permit and the labour office was willing to make an exception, stretching the period to 60 days (instead of the usual 30). That wasn't their first answer but it was their second.

I don't have high hopes for the visa though. Immigrations is a different story, usually.

, be aware of that even if you get a valid work permit (or get it extended), it won't let you stay in Thailand. You need to get an extension based on employment to stay and work in Thailand.

First let's dial in your errant terminology. I would wager you don't have a year VISA ๐Ÿ˜ฎ If you got that issued inside the country, what you have (if you look at your stamp) is an "extension of stay" (which is not a visa) ๐Ÿ™‚

You can apply for a new extension at some offices when you have 45 days or less left on your current stamp. BUT your solicitor is correct, there is no "other option". If you're out of the country when this one expires you're done and start all over from nothing.

NOPE you can't get an extension of stay issued outside the country.

I'd say take the documentation from your employer, and apply online for the Non-B 90 day Visa thru the thai consulate in either Ottawa or Vancouver when you're over there, come in, get stamped in for 90 days, then apply for the year extension.

That's about the best you can do really ๐Ÿ˜•
