I am planning on going to Thailand in November for 5 months, I am 62 and my wife is Thai, I am married currently in Ohio. I usually get an OA visa but now I don't have medical insurance since I am retired now and I had international coverage. I thought about a family visa and leave at 90 days and return. I still would like an OA visa but I don't need a years coverage. Since I would have a year visa would they make me keep insurance for the duration of the visa or can I show I'm leaving in 5 months? What is my best route for insurance, cost wise? Or is the family visa better and find insurance for 5 months?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is considering options for a 5-month stay in Thailand, facing challenges regarding the OA visa due to lack of medical insurance. Comments suggest that the OA visa requires proof of one year of insurance, and alternative solutions include the Non-O visa based on marriage, which can be extended for an additional 60 days without requiring long-term insurance. Recommendations for affordable insurance options, like Pacific Cross, are provided.

Get the 90 days Non Imm 0 based on marriage, then apply for the 60 days extention based on visiting a Thai dependant relative. That gives you pretty much 5 months.

I was trying to only pay for 5 months and get an O visa in USA for family and renew one time for 90 more days it's going to save over a 1 year deal

You can’t renew a Non O, you can apply for an extension from it but only for one year, not 90 days. You could apply for a visit Thai family extension once the non O is near its end. That would give you 60 days.

Hadn’t noticed that Steve had already said about the visit Thai family extension.

The embassy will not issue an OA without proof of 1 year of insurance.
