I have a question and I hope someone in thr group has had a similar situation. My daughter, granddaughter, and myself are moving to Bangkok next month. I do not work, but am in school wrapping up my Masters and plan to teach. My daughter does work and is also wrapping up her Masters. My grandbaby is only 3. I am her other primary parent since my sil was murdered before she was born.

With that said, can we apply for a family dtv using her work and my savings? If so, do we each need to have 500k baht in the bank? Can she still be listed as a dependent at 32? Can I be her dependent?...not sure which route to go since she has the jon, but I have the funds

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user is seeking advice on applying for a Thai Digital Nomad Visa (DTV) for themselves and their family, consisting of their daughter, who has a job, and their granddaughter. Concerns include whether they can base their applications on her employment and their savings, the necessity of having 500,000 baht in each account, and the eligibility of being dependents despite ages. Responses highlight that if the daughter will be working for a Thai entity, she cannot use the DTV and suggests that both need to apply separately. Additionally, there are varying bank statement duration requirements, and legal guardian documentation may be necessary.

If you’re both teaching via remote work then you’ll need to both apply for your own DTV. The money required doesn’t have to stay in your account for the duration of your visa though so if it’s hard for you to get twice the funds, just apply for one first and once you have it, transfer the funds to the other person and apply for theirs.

and Asia Morgan, maybe check into the amount of time the funds have to be in the account. One YouTuber I saw who got the DTV said the embassy she applied at said the money has to be in the account for one month before applying. Another said three months. Another said six months.

Also one gentleman said when it was time to do the 180 day extension of his DTV, he was told the 500,000 had to be in his account when he applied for the extension.

From reading the posts in the group daily, I am learning that everything is not cut and dried when it comes to applying for any kind of Thai visa. Each consulate/embassy has its own rules regarding what documentation they will accept and immigration officers have the final say once arriving in Thailand.

However I haven't yet heard of anyone being denied entry when entering Thailand on their first 180 days of their DTV.

Please check with the Thai embassy or consulate in your region for their requirements.

Good luck!

Do you have legal paperwork saying you are the child's guardian?

A DTV is not suitable for you if you plan to work inside Thailand. You need to first find a job then apply for a Non-B visa and work permit with support from the school you will work for. As most schools expect you to apply for the Non-B outside of Thailand and you can't have 2 active visas the DTV will prevent you applying.

Your daughter could apply for the DTV if she will work remotely from Thailand, but not if she will work for a Thai entity. Once she has hers she could apply for her daughter as her dependent

32 is way past dependent age, and you will not be granted as dependent to her…since everyone is an adult minus the 3 year old

Yes you will have to all apply for separate DTV visas and each will have to have the required monetary amount in the accts.

if You get the DTV you cannot work in Thailand for a Thai company being a teacher, you will have to get a work permit to work, if police or immigration does a check and sees that you’re working illegally there will be repercussions for your actions

Good luck

you are assuming I will be teaching in Thailand, I will not. I will not be teaching in any Thai schools, I will be online only. With that said, thank you for taking the time to answer, we know which route to go.
