Can I leave Thailand for a few days to Laos and then return to extend my non-O visa, or do I need to fly out of Thailand?

I have a non O visa 90 days and arrived in Thailand the 28 October, I am 67 and married to a Thai.

We planning to fly back to Norway at the end of April (max 6 months), therefore wonder is it the same if we go a couple of days to Laos by land and back an get 60 days and try to get more 30 days in the immigration or do we have to fly out of Thailand and do the same?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquires about extending their Non-O visa, which is valid for 90 days, by traveling to Laos and returning by land versus flying out of Thailand. Various responses suggest that a 60-day extension is possible for visiting Thai family at the immigration office due to being married to a Thai national, and emphasize the importance of obtaining a re-entry permit if they require multiple entries during their stay. Overall, traveling to Laos is considered a viable option for extending their stay.

If you have any questions you can contact the Phuket Immigration Volunteers on piv.information@gmail.com When you get your retirement extension don't forget to buy a multiple re-entry permit to allow to you go out and into Thailand more than once in a year. You can get that at Immigration Blue Tree, but the retirement extension is only available in Phuket Town (I think). Good luck and best wishes.

@Arvid **********
yes you’ll get 60 days but you’ll need to spend a couple days there

There is no option for a 30 day extension on that visa BUT you can get a 60 day extension for purposes of "visiting Thai family" at your local immigration office as you are married to a Thai

Will you get a 30 day extension on a land border Visa Exempt entry? I've not seen the official announcement that was due today. What you could do is take the 60 day "Visit Thai Family Extension" before you border bounce so that you don't need to extend your entry stamp to get your 6 months.

Yes that is ok. I will do the same.

Assuming you get your 1yr extension in January, you will need to purchase a reentry permit from immigration. No need for visa exempt entry unless you want to invalidate your non-o.
