Can I extend my 90-day non-O retirement e-visa in Thailand, or must I leave the country to reapply?

I am in Thailand on a 90 day non-O (retirement) e-visa, which expires a month from now. Is it possible to extend it for another 90 days at the (Chiang Mai) immigration office, or will I need to leave the country and apply for another non-O e-visa from outside the country? Thanks.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user in Thailand is seeking advice about extending their 90-day non-O (retirement) e-visa at the Chiang Mai immigration office before it expires. Comments clarify that the extension options are limited; unless the individual has a Thai spouse or child, they can only apply for a 1-year extension based on retirement. The user considers options including traveling to Cambodia or Vietnam to obtain a new 90-day non-O visa or doing a border run to Laos for a visa-exempt entry, followed by converting to a non-O visa.

Thanks for the info. I have a Thai bank account but haven't put the 800k baht in yet (waiting for the USD/THB exchange rate to improve). It seems that I have 2 options then:

1. Go to Cambodia or Vietnam, and get another 90 day non-o retirement e-visa before returning to Thailand.

2. Do a border run to Laos, come back in with a visa-exempt stamp, then convert to a non-o 90 day visa (tm.86).

Does that sound right?

You can only extend non-o 1 year and the 1st extension must be for the reason you obtained it.

If you are married to a Thai or have a Thai child you can get a visit Thai family 60 day extension 1 time.

I'd you obtained it for any other reason you can only extend 1year.

Unless you have a Thai wife or half Thai child, your only option for extension is going to be the 1-year extension based on retirement.
