I have read a few posts about extending a current Visa by another 12 months by crossing the border and returning.....

I have a Multi Entry Non-Imm O visa extension based on marriage expiring on 18 Nov 2019. I am due to travel back to Australia on the 12th Nov and returning 19 Nov.

1. If I exit Thailand and return prior to that date, will I get stamped in for another 12 months from the date of re-entry?

1. If so, will that also be multi-entry?

1. Does it matter whether i exit and re-enter via land or air?

My other option is to convert it to a Retirement extension prior to the expiry of my current visa extension.

Advice please

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquires whether they can extend their Multi Entry Non-Immigrant O visa, which is based on marriage, by exiting Thailand before its expiration and re-entering for an additional 12 months. They also ask about the mode of re-entry (land or air) and if the extension would still be multi-entry. Community responses indicate that it is typically not possible to gain an additional 12-month extension from a visa based on marriage through this method. They also suggest considering converting to a retirement extension, although this requires higher financial proof.

Why not apply in Savannahket for a 1 year multi entry - requirements are simple.

Thanks guys. I'm only in Australia for 1 week and not enough time to do all that. So, looks like it's Plan B with Roi Et Immigration

Just a question, seeing as you're already on an extension based on marriage to a thai why would you want to convert to a retirement extension? That requires double the funds you show now 800K baht for retirement versus the 400K baht you show based on marriage.

We had non amicable separation a couple of months ago. Not yet divorced. No chance of getting photos and other requirements. Funds are already in bank account. 3 months seasoning on 26 Sep.

When you're back in Australia you should look into getting the year long multi-entry O-A visa from a thai consulate that sells it there.

You show proof of funds using your bank in Australia, you need a medical certificate and a police back ground check BUT that visa is far superior to any type of yearly extension you can get inside the country.

In order to get two years out of a visa that lasts a year you need to have bought a year-long, multi-entry Non-Immigrant Type O-A (Long Stay) visa from a thai consulate in your country BEFORE you came here

You can not get 12 months stamp by entering with "marriage" visa. Only with Non OA "retirement" visa.

okay, let's get you sorted.

IF you have a yearly extension of stay from the immigration office you CANNOT get a 'free year' by exiting and re-entering
