TLDR : Answer Summary
A user is seeking clarification on whether their 90-day non-O visa, obtained in London while married to a Thai citizen, can be extended. Responses indicate that extensions for a non-O visa are available in two forms: a one-year extension based on marriage, which requires specific documentation and verification, or a 60-day extension that requires the presence of the Thai spouse. Several commenters suggest confusion regarding the regulations and some mention potential changes to immigration rules. Moreover, the original poster is advised to possibly return to the immigration office for further clarification or consider alternative exit and re-entry options to remain in Thailand.

Ok you said non-o visa you married a thai woman - that isnt a tourist visa i think the IO made a mistake I would go back and ask to speak to a supivisor or leave the country and come back after a few days - they limited the visa exempt extensions a tourist visa. What you claimed isnt a tourist visa its a dependant visa

The OP asked for a 30 day extension and was told the right answer, cannot have one. Going back and asking for a 60 day Visit Thai Family extension while accompanied by his wife and with the correct documentation (assuming the marriage is registered in Thailand) will get a different response.

That was your problem if your marriage is not registered at your local Amphur. When you get back to the UK start this process :

1. IN THE UK: Marriage certificate legalised by the FCDO in Milton Keynes

2. IN THE UK: Marriage Certificate AND the Apostille from the FCDO Translated

3. IN THE UK: Marriage Certificate AND the Apostille from the FCDO AND their translations verified by the Thai Embassy in London

4. IN THAILAND: All the above (i.e. all 4 documents & their translations, making 8 in total) Legalised by MFA in Bangkok

then go to the Amphur

Which extension did you tried to obtain? You can't get 30 days extension. However, if you vring your wife with you, you can get the 60 days visiting Thai family extension once per visa.

If you can't, then leave on the date it expires and fly to Vietiene or HMC or Hanoi then fly back again 48 hours later on a 30 day tourist exempt visa then extend that at the end of the 30 days..... That will then cover your 117 days.

You appear to be misinformed , suggest you look it up on UK Thai Embassy web site

There is but you still have to leave Thailand after 90 days

The multi-entry Non-O ceased to exist when the eVisa system was rolled out globally in January. Some Embassies might still mention it because their website maintenance record is shocking.

Apparently the Multi entry tourist visa replaces the 90 day multi entry one

It’s roughly the same, 60 days and you can extend each visit 30 days with a visit to immigration

As always with Thai Immigration, the devil is in the details

METV has been available for many years and, like the single-entry Non-O, is issued by the MFA via Embassies not Immigration ;)

Which extension were you trying to get? A non-O based on marriage can only be extended 2 ways:

1) a One-year extension based on marriage to Thai, including proof of funds in your Thai bank account for 2 months, and a large number of other things which varies by immigration office

2) a 60-day visiting Thai family extension based on your Thai wife. Not all immigration offices offer this extension.

For both of these, your wife would need to be with you and your marriage would need to be registered in Thailand at an amphur office.

what a concept. Totally within the rules to get extension on family but not all office will do it. A national standars would take care of the problem. Leads to more corruption. Only thai people could debate 1+1=2. 555.

I only wanted a 30 day extension. My thai wife and I are visiting Thailand for a total of 117 days. I have a 90 day non o visa from London for visiting relatives. I,m sure I did it a few years ago with just a copy of my passport and some passport photos.

if your local immigration office won't, then drag your wife and paperwork to the next immigration office in the next district that will grant this extension, stay in a hotel that will file a TM30 and then go apply for the 60 day visit Thai family extension.

What you got in the past was a tourist extension. That means you entered Thailand as a tourist, either with a tourist visa or no visa at all and entered visa exempt. This time you did not enter as a tourist, so you cannot get a tourist extension

there is no 30 day extension available on that visa. You could possibly get a 60 day "visiting Thai family" extension. Note the terminology, it applies to any Thai family although in your case it would be your Thai wife
