I got a question.

1) when you arrive in Thailand, you get a 30 day visa correct?

2) if we leave before the 30 days and go to a different country then return to Thailand, do they give us another 30 days?

TLDR : Answer Summary
Upon arrival in Thailand, travelers from eligible countries receive a 30-day visa exemption stamp, not an actual visa. If you leave Thailand and re-enter, you can obtain another 30-day visa exemption. Additionally, travelers may apply for a one-time 30-day extension at an immigration office for a fee. However, exiting and re-entering via land borders is limited to two times per calendar year, while there are no limits for air travel, though using this method for long-term stays may be problematic.

Why not do the right thing and apply for a tourist visa from your home country. Cheaper and not a lot of hassle with borderline and imigration

But if he's staying less than 30 days no Visa is required

Of course, Visa agents will claim that it is not cheaper to apply for a tourist visa, they want to make money on the tourists. Just go to Imigration's page where you will find all the information, including the price

we will more than likely be traveling to different countries for a long weekend once a month but want a main place to come back.

May - stay in Bangkok but possibly one of the weekend in that month we'll fly to Vietnam.

June - stay in Bangkok but maybe a weekend in that month we'll fly to Japan.

July - stay in Bangkok and visit Korea for weekend

August - stay in Bangkok but visit Philippines then come back to U.S.

Dec - back to Thailand till January.

May - Fully stay in Thailand for maybe a year. (With visa) this time around.

1) no. Depending on your passport you receive a 30 day visa exemption. You do not get a visa.

2) you can extend the visa exemption at any immigration office in Thailand for another 30 days for 1900 baht. If you depart Thailand and return you would receive yet another 30 days which can be extended 30 days

There is no such thing as a 30 day visa.

If you are from a country eligible, and arrive without a visa, you can receive a 30 day visa exempt stamp (not a visa, it means you are exempt from needing a visa)

If you want additional time you can go to immigration and apply one time for a 30-day extension.

Or if you leave Thailand and return, you will receive another 30 day visa exempt stamp.

You can only leave and return at a land border without a visa 2 times per calendar year. There is no limit written into law about how many times you can do this by plane, but you cannot do it to stay in Thailand long term.

oh okay because we plan to go to Thailand for about 3 months as our main Base

Then travel to Vietnam, possibly Japan and or Korea then back to thailand. So we wanted to make sure that we won't need some type of visa.

We are Americans.

thank you so much for your prompt response.

@John *****
consider applying for a single entry tourist visa on line before coming, that will give you 60 days plus a 30 day extension. That will be your initial 3 months you’re wanting without wasting a land border entry.

the tourist visa is a waste if he's already planning on traveling around Asia
