Hello! I would like to travel spontaneously to Thailand for 3 months. Time-wise, I probably won't be able to wait for the tourist visa. My plan is to enter first with the 30 day permit and then use the tourist visa. Do I have to re-enter (i.e. leave first after 30 days)for the tourist visa to count? Thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is planning to travel to Thailand spontaneously for 3 months, initially entering with a 30-day permit. They ask if they need to leave Thailand to activate a tourist visa after the 30 days. Responses indicate that if a tourist visa is obtained before entering, they must leave and re-enter to activate it. Alternatively, they might extend the 30-day exemption by 30 days at immigration or do a border run for more time.
In which case you may as well not get a visa at all. Enter and get 30 days visa exempt and extend for a further 30 days at immigration. Do a border bounce for another 30 days (which you can also extend)
If you have your TR visa approved already you will be stamped in with that first if the visa is in your passport.. if you have a E-visa well then you don't need to show but after the 30 days you would have to leave and come back in and show the E-visa to be stamped in for 60 days
