Does anyone know if the Thai embassy in Penang processes DTV?
Do I understand the way the DTV "time" is counted correctly?
It allows someone to be in Thailand for up to 180 days per calendar in the country, but that time does not have to be continuous, correct?
I could stay 3 months, then go on a 1-week trip and then be stamped back in (at no additional cost) and stay until I reach max. 180 days, is that correct?
Thank you everyone!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The Thai embassy in Penang does process the DTV visa, although the paperwork can be cumbersome. The DTV visa allows for multiple entries over five years, with each entry granting up to 180 days. However, when a person leaves Thailand, the stamp from their previous stay cancels, and upon re-entry, they receive a new 180-day stamp. Therefore, the time spent in Thailand does not accumulate towards a total of 180 days across multiple stays.
Those will be on evisas by then. The only consulates, which so far have not indicated anything regarding moving to the evisa system are the ones in Laos and Taipei. For Laos, I will examine their FB pages and websites more closely as perhaps they've mentioned something that I haven't seen.
If you showed up on a DTV you'd get 180 days, when you left the country that stamp would cancel, then when you come back you'd get a NEW 180 day entry stamp. Each entry on that visa for the 5 years it's valid for gets you a 180 day entry stamp
Thank you so much for your response and helpful. Last follow-up question: Beyond the initial visa fee, there will be no fee to re-enter each time on a new 180-day stamp, correct? The only fee we would incur is if we applied for the extension beyond 180 days, is that right?
