# Is there a visa extension specifically for medical/dentist appointments?

I'm here in Thailand on a visa exemption (from US), and I already extended by 30 days. I had a dentist appointment booked for my last week in Thailand before my visa expires, BUT I got sick, which made me push back my dentist appointment, PAST the end of my current visa.

So, I want to extend my visa again. Is there a specific visa where I can bring in documentation from the dentist about my appointment, and I can extend further on that basis? Or should I just try to do the "Unable to travel due to COVID" extension, and not even mention the dentist?

I'm in Pattaya, if that matters.

Thank you!

TLDR : Answer Summary
An expat in Thailand seeks advice on getting a visa extension due to a postponed dental appointment after already extending their visa exemption once. Community responses suggest that while a dentist's note can help, it may not be sufficient for an extension based on medical grounds unless it's related to more serious health issues. They also mention the option of applying for a 60-day COVID extension.

Depends on your health situation. Generally a doctor has to certify you are unfit to travel. I don't know if a dental appointment will pull that up. Otherwise you might be better off trying for the 60-day covid extension. They are still being sold until March 25

It's cosmetic dentistry (Invisalign) so it's not a reason I am unfit for travel. Yeah might just be simpler to try for COVID extension

Steven Paul. If you pre-plan a course of dental treatment before leaving your home country you can apply for the non-O (medical) 90-day visa, which is a perfectly legitimate way to enter and stay in the country during the course of treatment. I had a friend who came here for dental implants, crowns etc, and the whole process took almost three months. He got the dentist to produce an timetable of the treatment and visits, and it was accepted without question. Your situation where you're looking for an in-country extension, is based more on an emergency basis.

Ah okay, makes sense. Thanks for explaining that.

You should be able to get a 60 day covid extension if you came in on a visa exempt stamp and already used your one 30 day extension. For a medical extension the doctor has to certify on the form that you are unable to travel, and dental work doesn't qualify, unless it was an accident and you can not travel for other reasons.

Ok yes that makes sense, thanks so much for your input!

Yes. What i did in the past was take the doctors note to the immigration, paid extension and visa was in place as long as doctor prescribed. Never had an issue
