Hello everyone

I came to Phuket on a Tourist Visa a few days ago.

I'd like to find a dental or hospital to have braces for my teeth and I wish to stay longer here as it will be a longtime treatment.

May I apply a Medical Visa for this situation?

Appreciate your reply.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user inquires about the possibility of applying for a Medical Visa for dental braces treatment after entering Thailand on a Tourist Visa. Comments suggest that while a Tourist Visa can be extended for an additional 30 days, obtaining a Medical Visa for dental treatment is generally not feasible, as medical visas should be acquired before traveling for procedures that can't be performed at home. It's noted that dental work does not typically qualify for a medical extension unless it prevents travel, and suggestions point towards possible future developments in medical treatment visas.

Not sure this has seen the light already (or ever will for that matter - you never know in Thailand), but anyways ... could work for up to 1 year stay:

I'll consult with the agency for this information. Thanks

Medical visas are obtained before travelling to Thailand for procedures that cannot be carried out in your own country

No chance. Immigration does not like giving medical extensions to begin with and you need to provide proof of why you CANNOT fly, not proof of why you don't want to fly. Braces do not prevent anyone from flying.

Too late for a medical visa, you get that before you travel (TR60 reason = medical)

Nice thought. As correcting teeth by braces can take years ... would be an "easy" way to stay long term. No clue if something like that can be pulled off. Following.

You can get an extension for another 30 days [edit if your nationality allows - your profile doesn’t show so I’m assuming you could]. If your medical treatment is at a hospital you may have a shot at getting a medical extension, but from a regular dental clinic I’m not sure.

Generally a medical extension is because “you can’t fly/leave”. I’m not sure dental work will qualify.

Even for something like an emergency stay, where you are still mobile, but shouldn't fly, I was told by the immigration person herself that it would be easier just to arrange a border run, as there is quite a lot that both you and the hospital have to do to extend for medical reasons in country. Think Marriage visa like stuff. Proof of this, proof of that...

(I was just getting a regular extension, but it came up in conversation with her.)
