TLDR : Answer Summary
A user seeks advice on visa options as they plan to live in Thailand for 5 months annually while traveling back to the UK. Suggestions include obtaining a Non-O visa for retirement or a Non-O dependent visa, which is available for those with Thai children. The Non-O dependent visa might require bank funds and paperwork, while the Non-O retirement visa needs 800,000 baht in a Thai bank account. The discussion also covers the potential for a multiple entry visa to facilitate travel between Thailand and the UK.
NON-O RETIREMENT VISA RESOURCES / SERVICES
  • Go to the Retirement Visa Section for information on requirements, including age restrictions, financial requirements, and necessary documentation.
  • For immediate assistance, contact Thai Visa Centre directly via LINE at @ThaiVisaCentre or Email them.
  • Explore recent discussions by using the Non-O Retirement Visa tag in the search box at the top of the page.

One daft question on this every 5 months I will leave Thailand for the uk for a month is there a way of getting an easy 6 month visa.
Stuart *********
@Chris ********
a multiple entry visa (METV) is valid for 6 months. Each entry allows you 60 days on entry. It’s not particularly cheap on the scale of things being about 5x the cost of a single entry tourist visa. With careful timing you can get around 9 months out of that visa.

I think it’s £150. But their website will confirm.

2 ways to do...

1. Child ID + death certificate of your wife + house registration + 400k in bank with other usual documents,...can do Non-O dependent/Thai child in Thailand on yearly extension.

2. Go to district office/court with lawyer, where your child is domicile. Apply for "legitimatation of child certificate". Child ID + death certificate of your wife + house registration + need child signature in front of registrar + other usual documents + court fee 3-4000 Baht + lawyer fee. Take 40-60 days to obtain. After getting this certificate + death certificate of you wife + may be house registration + other usual document, you can apply at Thai Embassy in your home country to get Non O dependent/Thai child visa that can be extended yearly bases in Thailand

You can get a dependent child visa until she’s 20 provided that you have full custody of her recognised by a family court or amphur. Less money needed in a Thai bank than a “retirement” visa. But that stops at 20.

I full custody in a Thai court after the passing. So that route could be the way

You also have the non o family visa option, for dependent child, which I am on, easier if she's your biological Thai child, harder but not, but not impossible, 400k in bank and lots of paperwork, which incidentally I can't be arsed with so pay 10,000 for visa agent to take care of..

The best and easiest route and also do a retirement visa while in Bangkok and by pass the medical

Alternatively if you don’t want to transfer funds to Thailand for that purpose you could opt for a Non OA visa. It’s a year long multiple entry visa and timing things right you can get almost 2 years from that visa as each entry gives you one year on entry. Caveat is that you need medical insurance for this visa, plus a police check and medical.

the 65k into the Thai bank from uk suits me 100%
Stuart *********
@Chris ********
That’s fine for extensions after the first year extension. Won’t be an option for the initial Non O if applying in country or the first year extension.
Brown ********
@Stuart ********
if that's so, when I returned on my non oa in November, the immigration officer only stamped me in till the end date of my non oa in April. Is that their mistake or is there something else that I should have done?
Stuart *********
@Brown *******
every entry on a non OA visa gives 365 days on entry OR however long your medical insurance is valid until. If you had a full year medical insurance to November then you would have gotten a stamp until then. Without knowing your insurance details I can’t say whether that was a mistake or not.
Brown ********
@Stuart ********
no that explains it perfectly. I hadn't renewed my medical insurance. They never asked about it so they must expect you to show it. Thank you
Paul ***********
@Stuart ********
2 years on each entry?
Stuart *********
@Paul **********
no one year on each entry. Enter just before it expires and you get the “second” year. Albeit that is not multiple entry. Have to get a permit for that.
David *******
Simplest way is probably to get a Non O visa ‘for Retirement’ from the Thai embassy in London and then get annual Extensions of Stay from the Immigration office in Thailand.

You’ll need 800k baht in a Thai bank account for the Extension.

@David ******
or have bank account here with a min of 65k direct deposited ( FFT ) .

@Steve *********
65 k every months that would not be a problem
David *******
@Chris ********
you couldn’t do that for the first extension, you’d need the 800k, but you could that in future years
Steve **********
@Chris ********
The account must be in your name.

Thinking out loud :

There may be way for your daughter to access it for living expenses

I'm out of my element here, you could talk to your bank.

Good luck
