Can I extend my Student ED Visa by 7 days in Thailand before it expires?

Hi!

I got a Student ED Visa from last August and it ends on the 15th of June. However, I have to been in Bangkok on the 17th. I went to Malaysia to get a Touristic Visa while coming back but for some reasons they didn't give it to me. I first thought about overstaying instead but since I have to come back a couple of days in Thailand in mid-July, I won't take any risk.

So I now think about doing an extension of stay of 7 days. Is it possible with a Student ED Visa? Cuz all the informations I find are about touristic visa. Is it easy to get it? Because technically I could leave on the 15th but I'd rather not miss my meeting on the 17th, but if there is big chances I get rejected I prefer to save my money.

I can provide an Invitation Letter for my meeting, Passeport photocopy, ID pictures, what else?

Thank you!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking information on whether they can get a 7-day extension on their Student ED Visa, which expires on June 15th, to avoid overstaying before returning for a meeting on June 17th. They attempted to obtain a tourist visa while in Malaysia but were denied. Community responses suggest that a 7-day extension might be possible but also warn that it may not truly extend their stay; instead, it could be a stipulation to exit the country in 7 days. They also discuss the proper procedure for converting their visa upon re-entry to ensure they do not run into issues.

I'd say the "extension denied" 7 day stamp to get outta thailand is your best option now..

Ok thank you!

That's how it'd work for you ;)

Oh I see, is it like I have to apply for an extension of 30 days and they refuse so they grant me 7 days instead the time I organize? That's pretty weird haha

You say you went to Malaysia to get a tourist visa, what consulate did you go to where you were denied a tourist visa?

OR

Did you just try to exit/re-enter the country to get a 30 day visa exempt stamp?

No, at Don Muang airport! Flying from Penang but it doesn't matter then I guess

Yes but they don't give anymore 30-day stamp (expecially following a one-year visa) at Malaysian borders. Did you get denied at Satun border?

But it wasn't one year yet! Almost though...

It's not, Tod

@Ma***
, I don't believe that's a written policy :/

After a one-year legal visa, they deny a back-to-back 30 day stamp

I just tried to re-enter to get a 30 day visa exempt stamp yes!

The 7 day extension for 1900baht is really a DENIAL of an extension and a stamp that says you need to exit the country in 7 days. Sometimes the officers wanna see that you're really leaving the country so you might hafta show a flight out, but you should be able to get the 7 day extension

were you aiming to get the visa exemption on your way back in?

Yes I see, I knew some friends who did it this way before that's why, but apparently my officier wasn't the most conciliant so far...

@Ant****
, To be honest, what you should have done was; went to the immigration office the day you were gonna exit the country, cancel the ED visa extension and the re-entry permit,

THEN fly out and back in, that woulda been the correct way to get a 30 day visa exempt entry stamp.

The asking that they cancel an existing ED extension while you hold a re-entry permit is totally up to the person stamping you into the country.

Yes exactly, the school gave me the extension until the 15th of June that's why I needed the 30 days exemption Visa instead - but the officier kept this one

@Antoine *******
, was 15th of June the expiration date of your previous extension stamp? If so that's why you only got 10 days.

Well I guess there is no misunderstanding possible? If I came back on the 5th, it doesn't allow me to stay 30 days in this case?
David *********
.... what? that's odd

I asked them! The girl said yes... And turned me back the same Student Visa! I told her I had to leave on the 18th.
David *********
yeah you gotta tell em your visa is almost empty and you don't want the entry on that visa
Tod *********
@Antoine *******
you would have had to tell them you didn't want to use your multi-entry permit and wanted a visa exempt entry instead when you were stamping in.

Yes! Like entering Thailand and cancelling my Student Visa and just get a touristic Visa instead but apparently it didn't work because I had a multiple entry :(
